Gordon to Double Back?

  • by: Colorado Pols

Fresh off a narrow loss in the race for secretary of state, Democratic Senator Ken Gordon is apparently considering a new office: State House.

Gordon is apparently considering running for the house seat being vacated by Rep. Alice Borodkin in 2008 (both Gordon and Borodkin are term-limited). Gordon doesn’t want to go back to the private sector, and with House leaders Andrew Romanoff and Alice Madden both term-limited as well, Gordon sees an opportunity to move right into leadership on the House side.

If Gordon does run for the state house, it would throw quite the monkey wrench into plans for several potential candidates also looking at Borodkin’s seat. Borodkin, ironically, will likely run for Gordon’s senate seat.

  1. House speaker would give him more visibility and maybe lead to a run for higher office in the future.  Gordon is a jewel, a pol with absolute integrity.  It’s a real shame he isn’t our new Sec. of State.

  2. I have always thought Gordon was a pompous ass.  This just confirms it.  He should consider the experience of others who have tried this end run around term limits.  Can you say Dave Owens and Ken Chlouber????  Hopefully voters will send him packing.  Sorry, Ken, the purpose of term limits was to return legislators to the private sector after having served in a citizen legislature.  The idea is that folks who have more real world experience make better decisions.  So, get a job.  Or I suspect the voters will force you to get a job.  Can you imagine someone actually saying they don’t want to return to the private sector.  This is just exactly what is wrong with politicians and why the voters of this state imposed term limits.  Get a life Ken.

    1. Gordon is anything but a pompous ass.  He is a politician who works hard for the people of Colorado, witness his walk from Wyoming to New Mexico for Prop C.  His emails, if you bother to read them, are folksy with lots of self-depracation.  He is always polite to the opposition, never rants or rails against them.  In the Democratic return to power in 2004, he actually suggested giving some R’s a few committee chairs but was promptly voted down.  He came within a smidge of becoming SoS without taking PAC money, unlike Mike.

Whether you like this type of “end run” around term limits, you are certainly entitled to that opinion.  All players who are not worn out by the time their time expires will do something like this if they can, R or D.

And if you think that Ken or any other state politician goes through election hell for a $30,000/yr + per diem job, you’re nuts.  I wouldn’t.

  3. The difference between what Gordon may do, and what Weismann and Frank Weddig did, is that Weismann and Weddig hadn’t served in the House before, only the Senate.  Gordon wants to run for the House after being term limited in the Senate, and term limited in the House prior to that.

    1. I know it must be hard to come up with a good political post after the election, but really CO pols lets keep the fabrocated rumors to the high school chearleaders!

      1. I thought you said it was totheright that was totally shooting from the hip.

While we’re on the subject, I heard that Tom Tancredo and Bill Winter are running mates on the ticket for Supreme Commander of the North American Union.

        1. Ken Gordon loves the game of politics. If there is some way for him to stay in the game he will take it. If that means going to the State House that is what Ken Gordon will do.

  4. Ken Gordon has been a great Legislator. Colorado needs his leadership. I hope that Ken Gordon runs for the State House because the Legislature needs his liberal but pragmatic voice.
Don’t be surprised if Senator Bob Hagedorn casts his eyes upon a State House seat as well.

  5. Ken moved and is now in Romanoff’s district.  Now wouldn’t that be interesting–he’d run for Romanoff’s seat in 2008, since Andrew is termed out.  Otherwise, he’d have to move back into 9.  Odds are better on HD6 than HD9 (if that’s what he decides to do).

  6. If previous posts are right Gordon lives in Romanoff’s District and wants to return to the State House it would set up a showdown with Jennifer Mello who clearly wants to run for that seat as well.
