From a press release issued today by the campaign of Democrat Jay Fawcett in CD-5:
The headquarters for Jay Fawcett’s campaign for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District was vandalized overnight and a death threat – the third such threat – was also emailed to Fawcett. Both incidents have been reported to the police.
As voters headed to the polls, Fawcett campaign volunteers arriving at campaign offices were greeted with a vile “Skunk” aroma, making it virtually impossible to conduct work there. The campaign is expecting more than 200 people to come through the offices today to help with Get Out The Vote and Poll Watching efforts.
“Don’t let these hooligans deter you from exercising your Constitutional right to vote,” said Fawcett. “It’s time to take a stand against these attacks.”
This is the second time the Fawcett Campaign has been vandalized. Last Tuesday the Campaig inance Director’s car was covered in the skunk smell, while parked out front of the El Paso County Republican Office.
“I find it disgusting that, as we are fighting for Democracy in Iraq, people are besmirching Democracy here in Colorado Springs,” said Fawcett Campaign Manager Wanda James. “Death threats and childish illegal activities will not deter us from getting out the vote to victory today.”

Let’s see where Doug draws the line on when he steps up to say, “That was wwrong and I don’t approve.” Or, will it just be another, “It’s outside groups over which I had no control.” It’s a reflection on his integrity if, yet again, he fails to denounce the actions of those who support him.
They have been accused of this before with the skunk smell in Larimer County.
When and where did that happen before?
it wasn’t anywhere, this is just more of Joel Hefley’s sour grapes…
Jon and Mark Hotaling are both great Americans, great political operators and great conservatives…
Jon and mark, Dont you have skunking to do?

Democratic Campaign Office “Skunked”
November 07, 2006 2:00 PM
ABC News’ Daniel Steinberger reports: When Jay Fawcett’s Democratic campaign for Congress opened its office this morning in Colorado Springs, CO the Fawcett campaign said they found that their office had a skunk like smell making it very hard to work and utilize its 200 volunteers.
The Colorado Springs police confirm there was an obnoxious smell at the office but said that no one appeared to have gained entry into the office. Police suspect the smell may have come from a chemical that can be used for pranks and can be easily bought over the counter at stores.
Wanda James, campaign manager for Jay Fawcett said they were going to clean up the mess and “make damn sure it does not effect them” in any way. They will “of course not” blame this as a reason should they lose today.
When contacted by ABC News, Jonathan Hotaling for the Doug Lamborn campaign said they had not heard this and if it was true they thought it was “unfortunate”.
Police filed a report and are investigating the situation as “suspicious circumstances”.
Fawcett is in a competitive race against Lamborn for the 5th congressional district seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Joel Hefley (R-CO). This district which is considered a mostly Republican district has seen a late surge by Fawcett in recent weeks. If Jay Fawcett beats Doug Lamborn today, he will be the first Democrat ever elected to the seat in the district’s history. The seat which was created in 1972 has been held by only three other men. Lamborn’s efforts in his campaign were hurt by not receiving the endorsement of Hefley.
How about “unacceptable”, “repugnant” (no, sounds too much like “Republican”), or “condemnable”. How about something blunt like “the Lamborn campaign condemns whoever vandalized our opponent’s offices this morning; this kind of tactic is not acceptable for anyone of any political party.”
Nah, that would be too decisive. And besides, they’re privately happy it happened. It’s just “unfortunate” that it was reported before Election Day was over.
they’re not trying to get poll workers to throw away votes like Kyle Fisk is….yet.
what exactly was Fawcett’s Finance Directors car doing parked in front of Republican HQ?
from the “stinky” El Paso County Repbulicans. Street parking is avaialble when the Fawcett lot is full.
who had the bright idea of putting his campaign HQ across from Republican HQ. That’s a lot like waving a big red flag in front of a bull. You can get too “in your face”.
Thats half the fun of this race. It is the only parking for both dems and repubs, it is the coming together of two parties.
The Dem’s have never done anything to the repubs cars but everytime there is a dem car it gets lit on it as well as it’s bumper stickers removed.
It’s petty and lame!
I don’t know what the problem is…Doug Lamborn’s office smells like that whenever he’s there and no one seems to mind…
Lamborn isn’t even elected yet, and he already has that sulphurous stink of the devil that Bush left on the podium at the UN for Chavez. Man, this guy works fast.
To hell with the godlike qualities!
