Doug Lamborn's Latest Lies

We all know Doug Lamborn has a problem with the truth. That’s why outgoing Representative Joel Hefley would not endorse the winner of his own party’s primary for the Fifth Congressional seat.
But the sleazy campaign Doug ran is not the reason the Colorado Springs Independent, the Denver Post, or Esquire Magazine have endorsed Jay Fawcett.
They endorsed Jay for his superior qualifications, better experience, and willingness to ask the tough questions of our military leaders. The choice was simple for them.
So what’s a losing candidate to do in a situation like this? Go negative.

Here are Doug’s latest lies as seen on a TV near you:
- “Jay Fawcett is a liberal Democrat” – OMIGOD! They are still legal, even in El Paso County. I would call Jay a moderate. You can bet your next paycheck that all the Republicans for Fawcett would not support a “liberal Democrat” – even as described by Doug’s rapidly disintegrating campaign. And rest assured: a congress with Jay Fawcett in it will have more important things to work on come November than what to call who of the other party.
- “Jay Fawcett won’t support troops on our borders” – The federal government is responsible for the protection of our borders. The fact that President Bush chose to send National Guard troops to our borders 4+ years after 9/11 says more about the President that it says about Jay. Jay Fawcett has 3 requirements for the immigration bills pending in congress: 1) that they enforce our border security with all reasonable means possible, 2) that they enforce all the existing labor and visa laws for both employees and employers, and 3) that we work with border countries to stem the flow of illegal aliens into the U.S. Jay Fawcett refuses to make such a serious, long-term national security decision based on hurried laws written to satisfy wavering voters for a party whose leadership has failed in their duties.
- “Jay Fawcett is for amnesty” – not according to the Gazette: Lamborn also accused Fawcett of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants in the past, a charge Fawcett denied. At a May forum, Fawcett did not address amnesty, saying any solution to the immigration question must be realistic, enforceable and have a specific price tag.
- “Jay Fawcett took money from left-wing websites” – The website is ActBlue – a coalition of 21 activist and progressive internet sites. Donate to Jay if you want to see the best candidate win. Or donate to one of the other candidates of your choice. I would prefer it to be a Fighting Dem Vet. Jay Fawcett is proud of his support from around the country, from around the ideological spectrum, from young and old, worker and retiree, Democrat and Republican. He’s proud of the suport that’s come from various progressive websites throughout the blogosphere. Using Doug’s logic, I could setup an ActBlue page for him, donate to it, then complain that he gets money from curly-haired, east-side Democrats. But I won’t kick a man while he’s down.
- These same websites “mocked” the deaths of 4 Blackwater contractors in Fallujah? Markos Moulitsas of DailyKos did the mocking. Jay doesn’t agree with that statement – as he’s said before and expressed to Markos. Those four “contractors” – I call them mercenaries – who Doug Lamborn proclaims to support were: fighting this war off the books, with little control of theirs actions or mission, outside the command of the U.S. Armed Forces. Is this how you fight a war? Is this how you spread democracy? Is this how to support our troops? No, no, and no. Moulitsas, who served 3 years in the Army (3 more than Doug) wanted us all to see the reality of war. He questioned the use of contractors who make $1000 a day fighting next to our soldiers who had insufficient body armor, tainted water supplied by Halliburton, and who were given incomplete plan for after invasion from a stubborn and shortsighted Secretary of Defense.
Jay Fawcett and the Democratic Party will support our troops far better than the Bronze Star License plate proposed by Doug Lamborn could ever hope to do. It’s a nice gesture, but our service members deserve far more than that.
Maybe Doug thinks a license plate will block AK-47 bullets. Maybe he thinks calling people names will fix our nation’s problems. Jay Fawcett knows better. And he won’t insult the voters by lying to them about such critical issues. (Check
Jay’s issues page and you’ll see the truth in that.)
In the meantime, Doug Lamborn should get his resume updated, cuz Focus on the Family isn’t hiring right now. And Doug will not be the next congressman from the Fifth District of Colorado.
(Sorry for the link-heavy post, just want to make sure Doug knows we’re out here – with the truth. Crossposted almost everywhere. You know the drill…..)
I’m thinking, if the DCCC is paying attention to this race, then so is the RNCC. They pulled money from other races to spend somewhere else. Maybe they’ll target this race.
If Colonel Fawcett is enjoying his current swell, this is no time for complacency.
Much as I don’t like it, negative ads seem to influence votes. I expect more negative ads to come out attacking him. Maybe its time for Jay to go on the attack. Absentee ballots are already out.
