Democrat Merrifield Runs Scared

  • by: dudefbn

Today in the Gazette Merrifield announced his intention to go back on his word (is that lying?) and skip a debate with Fisk. Not sure whether he doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude or whether he’s just not playing his cards right… I haven’t seen many instances where avoiding a debate (after you have agreed to one) works out in favor of the candidate.

Is Rep Merrifield:

  1. Come on… this gets really old.  The whole “he’s too scared to debate” line may poll well — it must, or people wouldn’t demean themselves over and over again.

As I understand, Mike Merrifield never agreed to this debate.  He agreed to the concept of holding debates, and Fisk continued trying to set them up in a partisan manner.  I think Mike and Kjersten have made it pretty clear that he’s willing to participate in a debate that’s actually about sharing views with the people of Colorado Springs, but not in an event that’s about rhetorical maneuvering by Kyle Fisk.

  2. “I’m not refusing. I’m just refusing to debate unless the Republican Party and my opponent get my senator on the same platform,” Merrifield said. Most residents of House District 18 also live within Jones’ Senate district.

Fisk said if Jones and Morse ask to be part of it, they will accommodate them.”

Sounds like Merrifield is being a slimy politician afraid to face the music. And what exactly makes me a schill? Truth stings and all you can come up with is calling me a name? What are you? A Democrat? LOL

  3. I would completely disagree with your analysis of this. Merrifield’s request makes sense to me. Seems like the only thing holding the debates back is Ed Jones. If Fisk’s campaign was willing to “accomidate” Merrifield’s on other issues, then why not this one?

BTW: Your “poll” might just be the slimiest part of this whole thing. It’s like Colbert’s “George Bush, great president or the greatest?”, but lacking the comedic intent.

    1. See that’s just it. From my vantage point they DID accomodate Merrifield. The statement from them is “Fisk said if Jones and Morse ask to be part of it, they will accommodate them.”

So is Merrifield possibly making the case they did not act in an accomodating fashion?

And I apologize that my weak sense of humour went over like a lead balloon. I’ll try harder next time.
