From the Rocky Mountain News:
A Democratic activist served subpoenas Tuesday against gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez’s campaign, a political group, a political consulting firm and the state Republican Party in his bid to prove illegal campaign coordination between the political allies.
The subpoenas – approved by an administrative law judge – stem from a Sept. 15 complaint filed with the Secretary of State’s office by Boulder activist Aaron Fink accusing Beauprez, the Colorado Republican Committee and the Trailhead Group of violating campaign finance laws…
…The stakes in the legal battle could be high. Trailhead was founded in 2005 by powerful Republicans – Gov. Bill Owens, Bruce Benson and Pete Coors – to counter 527-group spending by four wealthy Democrats in 2004.
If Fink succeeds in convincing a judge that Trailhead violated the coordination ban, the group and potentially its contributors could face civil penalties from two to five times the amount of contributions received. [emphasis added]
The complaint accuses Trailhead of illegally collaborating with the state Republican party, the campaigns of Beauprez and Mark Hillman, a Republican candidate for state treasurer.

An lawyer representing both the Colorado Republican Party and the Trailhead Group gives the Beauprez campaign their attack ad script? Wow. He’s got his fingers in every pie.
After all, illegal collaboration is illegal, isn’t it?
but its not an alien so it’s not big deal.
No no, it’s very complex and nuanced, at least when white people are breaking the law.
make sure Rich Beeson, Steve Truebner, Rachael Sunberger, and Dan Hazelwood are included in those subpoenas.
Dan Hazelwood?
for both Trailhead and Beauprez (congressional and gubernatorial).
Pursuing cases like these can be expensive. Under our ridiculous system, if someone dares to file a complaint but ultimately no law violation is proven, he or she can be required to pay costs, etc. of the other side. I’m grateful that Fink and others put it on the line to keep people honest.
I wanted to file a complaint against the Independence Institute for the blatant anti-Ref C shilling last election, but there was a loophole that allows them to do so – without disclosing their donors – if it doesn’t constitute a “substantial” part of their activities. And the way the law currently defines “substantial” is ridiculously vague and biased against disclosure. I’m not rich, so I didn’t file.
Go Fink!
anyone know if Mike Norton has had any luck collecting his $78,000 in court costs from the Little Fella?
Trailhead can counter sue Fink if nothing gets proven? Is that right?
But in this case, it’s just that the judge can tell the losing party to pay the winning party’s attorney’s fees.
An additional counter-suit could be filed by Trailhead, but they’d want to have some good evidence before doing so.
Karma is a bitch.
