Bennet is surprisingly a good Senator, I think. I heard him on the radio discussing the need to plan very comprehensively for the transition from fossil fuels to green energy. He evidently has been working with coal miners in Craig, if I am not mistaken. He was very good. Unfortunately, he was on NPR at 5:30 in the am on the day after Thanksgiving. Who heard him, besides me?
I think the Democrats are counting on their base and are oblivious to the srides Republicans have made. Hugh Hewitt, again on talk radio, is championing O'Dea. ….that is early drive time in Colorado. The Republicans have flipped the Aurora city council, the Douglas school board and got rid of Tri-Health.
Agree that Bennet is becoming a better Senator. He is still wholly a creature of the financial markets, who has always voted for those interests ( against Glass Steagall, etc.) The 21st century Glass-Steagall Act sits in the Banking and Finance Committee, which Bennet chairs, with no action since 2017. Bennet voted for reforms to Dodd-Frank, to make it more banker-friendly.
It was “bipartisan” – Bennet voted with Cory Gardner on that one.
I don’t think Bennet is in danger from O’Dea. Those ads that claim that O’Dea is “pro-choice” will lose him as many from the right flank as it may gain him from the middle or unaffiliated bloc.
I hope that the Democratic whiz-kid consultants advising Bennet can master the art of walking and chewing gum at the same time, and will spend at least as much time messaging and GOTVing about preserving democracy as preserving the right to legal abortion.
In other news…
I see this morning that a lot of Russians are not down with conscription, or “partial military mobilization”, or whatever you want to call it. After Putin’s speech, one-way flights from Moscow to places like Istanbul, Dubai, Yerevan, etc. sold out, even after huge price hikes. The Russian railways booking site also crashed due to a huge spike in activity.
Google searches for “how to break your arm at home” are now a top trend in Russia. There isn’t a lot of will to go anywhere there.
It was also reported Putin had coughing fits and chest pains while recording his speech, causing him to have to re-record his message a few times. He’s also threatening nukes and claiming, “it’s not a bluff”.
It is a very instable time in Russia right now, which is of course very dangerous. Going to be a bumpy ride…
This was an interesting read. https://m.dailykos.com/stories/2022/3/23/2087736/-Do-any-of-Russia-s-Nuclear-Weapons-Actually-Work?
That’s pretty interesting. Given the kleptocratic state of the Russian military I am guessing most of the nukes haven’t been regularly replaced with tritium, and the money ended up in someone’s pocket as the article asserts. Hope there is no case to find out though either.
Putin just instituted a ban on Russian men 18-65 from buying airline tickets.
up to 65 years old? Total desperation…
Here’s the link.
When you finish your threat with. "This is not a bluff"…you are probably bluffing.
His generals have let him down so badly, how much can he trust them now?
Putin is now directing generals in the field in Ukraine directly from Moscow. Another bad idea that never works.
Much like Lyndon Johnson did during Vietnam. And we saw how that turned out.
Good read, for sure, Thanks!
The 11th Circuit decision reversing the lower court’s injunction preventing the feds’ use of classified documents seized from Mar a Largo is quite a smack down of the trial judge and Trump. My favorite quote, regarding Trump’s argument that his reputation will be harmed if the investigation proceeds:
Cobbledick v US, my new favorite case.
…imitating life!
