Bob Beauprez and Bill Ritter filibustered to a draw Friday evening in their joint appearnce on ‘Colorado Matters.”
Fred Brown of the Denver Post out pointed John Temple of the Rocky Mountain News as guest interviewers with host Gregg Dobbs.
My wife thought BB did better than BR, but she doesn’t know whether to believe either one. She’s not invested in either candidate nor the candidates’ parties.
BB was as articulate and quick on his haunches as the famously glib former DA and trial attorney BR, who failed to impress as being any brighter than the former banker and dairy man, but seemed to come across as being more on the attack than BB.
Beauprez appealed to his base with promises of a tax cut and a complicated set of financial measures he would take as governor.
Ritter appealed to his base with some misleading statistics about the state’s spending on education and health care, effectively promising he wouldn’t cut taxes and would do whatever he could to increase them.
Both appealed to their bases on the gay marriage issue.
Neither appealed to the swing unaffiliated voters with convincing promises or arguments on what they would do for taxpayers and the state. Thus, conservative leaning unaffiliateds probably were more impressed with Beauprez and liberal leaning unaffiliateds probably were more impressed with Ritter.
Both men came across as smooth, articulate and nice guys, which is what you expect from the two major party gubernatorial candidates.
Questions are: How can either man differentiate himself better?
Was there anything off putting about either man?
Did either man make a major misstatement?
Did either man look and sound like he was avoiding a question?

Don’t know about anybody else, but I’m not impressed with the promises being made by the gubernatorial candiates.
Both are personable and bland, evasive and cautious, soft spoken and dull.
It’s clear BB is grasping for attention but really has no clue. And Ritter is a typical Dem with no comprehension of economics, small business issues, health care nor the importance of border security and immigration reform.
