  1. On the eve of the anniversary of the insurrection is there ongoing surveillance of Republicans? So many have been booted to the psudoverse of parlor ect. that it's silent.

The Republican party committed an act of treason attempting a subversion of our constitution, then tried to gaslight us that it was anti-fascist.

I'm surprised I'm not reading more reports of these criminals movements in real time. I mean where that nutzo guy John Tig? What about all the people who were in DC on the 6th who are our neighbors? Why don't we have a list of their names and addresses like sex offenders?

    1. Many of them are in hiding, I think. At the very least, they are guilty of sedition.

As the conflicting pressures within the Republican plumbing continue to increase, a valve or fitting will inevitably blow, resulting in chaos within the Republican party. They are redlining now.

Regardless how vociferously  they may protest their innocence, Republicans are guilty.  There was a handful of Republicans who, from the beginning, knew Trump for what he is and rejected him from the start. The rest of the GOP has only one way to save itself…embrace Liz Cheney, Adam Kinsinger, Mittens, and the few other courageous Rs who are trying to stop him.

After a year of his campaign rallies, anyone who continued to support him, was complicit. Looking the other way makes you guilty, too.

Americans will need to resolutely stand together against the Republican Insurrection. We have 10 months to save our democracy.

      1. I agree with your sentiment and believe that Democrats have a very good shot at keeping the House and Senate and gain seats. That said I have no faith in the Republican party to become sane.

“Many of them are in hiding”- The FBI are still looking for over 300 criminals that they have evidence were perpetrators of 1/6 attacks. We have a number of these people in our backyards, they are among us. My concern is that nobody seem too worried with the Republican extremist out right now. Trump wont speak on 1/6… that could be because he doesn’t want to be blamed for the subsequent attacks tomorrow.

post script here is what is on cable TV right now:
Fox News – Outnumbered – VP Staff resignation (Trump had the best people)
CNN – John King – Capital police have over 400 unfilled positions and are running overtime with limited officers
Newsmax – The John Lewis Voters rights act is going to steal the next election unless we do something now!
MSNBC – Andria Mitchell – Sen Tim Kaine talks about traffic and legislation

I was wrong before thinking that Trump and Republicans would sulk and cry. I’m afraid that we are going to see hundreds of lone wolf attacks the talk from the right wing media and the lack of response back from their acolytes.

    2. John North of Denver, check out the FBI’s Capitol Violence site. It has lists of those who were charged with crimes, as well as images of rioters who have yet to be caught and charged. Sedition Hunters is on the case trying to get those who’ve so far escaped consequences. They’ve found many.

Colorado had quite a few who shamefully  participated in one way or another, including sitting legislators Boebert and Hanks, GOP officials and rioters Keller, Grover, Gieswein, Sabol, Palm, Williams, Montgomery,  MacCracken.

        1. And the money quote on that one is:

“[I]f people participated in this [Jan. 6] and they’re running in 2022, it just shows how disingenuous this continues to be. If you think American democracy is broken, and free and fair elections are not being held, [then] it’s ridiculous that you think it’s appropriate to put your name on the ballot.”

I think this applies equally to sitting electeds who continue to perpetuate the Big Lie.

        2. Those are the ones who are literate. What I am worried about is the frustrated morons who have been fed a steady diet of lies who are scared and confused by reality.

  2. Saw this late yesterday … put it on the Open Thread, but nobody joined in with additional mocking. So, here's the news, again.

Just saw one of the most humorous takes I've seen in awhile:

Axios Denver: "Polis steps into the national political spotlight"

Gov. Jared Polis is set to launch his reelection campaign this month — but many suggest he's eyeing a different office: President.

State of play: Chatter about Polis, a former congressman, being a candidate for the White House began at least six months ago, close associates say, and is now being amplified at the national level — most notably by prominent Republicans.

    1. I’m not quite sure whom you wish us to mock, but I’ll play along by mocking Axios…

Axios is obviously pushing the narrative of Polis as national contender. Axios is one of the more pre-eminent “DC Insider” voices pushing a Conservative-Moderate-Centrist (whatever-that-means) line, sort of like No-Labels or a Conserva-Democratic copy of Politico, the Republican Voice. Insider means they hang with DC influencers, i.e. lobbyists,  Joe Manchin, anonymous staffers from Capitol Hill.

Axios is really big on inflation anxiety messages and deficit worries, why we can’t have nice stuff. They aren’t at all interested in investigative journalism like TalkingPointsMemo, nor are they interested in context, like Heather Cox-Richardson.

I’ve subscribed to their local newsletter, but it is a pretty milquetoast effort to hang with the Gen X crowd. Anything interesting they come across is usually sourced from the Colorado Sun.

      1. "Sourced from the Colorado Sun" makes great sense, since John Frank, who wrote the Axios story JiD posted, was with the Colorado Sun for a few years.

  3. WOTD from Rachel Bitecofer on her twitter feed:

Collapse of Weimar in Germany. Rise of Mussolini in Italy. Stalin's post-Lenin purges. I've spent a year on a deep dive into how dictatorships rise. The common thread in every story? Under-reaction from the rest of civil society during the phase when they had the power to stop it

    1. Meanwhile, "No Labels" asks the burning question that captures the country's mood:

Should the anniversary of #January6 be marked with partisanship or with a message of unity?

      1. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

I rewatched a documentary on Himmler last night.  The assertion was made that although a relatively few thugs (as a proportion of the total population) participated in the atrocities if Kristallnacht, Himmler took the lack of outcry from the general population as a sign that he and the SS had license to do whatever they wanted to the Jewish population without concerns of reprisal.

To answer the question directly.  The crimes of January 6th should be replayed in full — including the condemnations of Republicans on that day (who later tucked their McCarthy tails) which should be rebroadcast.  And, serious calls for prosecution of the remaining insurrectionists should be renewed.

Don’t let the unrepentant, unconfessed fuckers win; don’t let them get away with anything!

      2. I vote for marking it with unity — EVERYONE ought to deplored the insurrection.

Of course, there is a small snag that makes it unlikely the celebration will be made with one voice.

  4. Krysten Sinema is getting burned and ratioed at the same time!

She thanked Arizona astrophysicists for their contribution to the movie, "Don't Look Up."

    Cenk Uygar:

"Don't you realize you're the bad guy in "Don't Look Up"? You just helped kill funding to fight climate change in BBB. You're pro-meteor. The clueless and corrupt politicians in the movie are modeled after you. Don't you know that? Sen. Sinema, look up!"

  5. Former GOP state rep Cole Wist (my rep who was beaten by Tom Sullivan in 2018) is on CNN tonight stating that he is leaving the GOP.  He tweeted “election lies, vaccine misinformation, making it harder to vote, excusing 1/6 thuggery, conspiracy theories galore.  …I’m out.”

    Good for him.
