Denver Museum of Nature & Science announced a new exhibit:

“Survival of the Slowest” takes its time in Denver starting Oct. 22

I’m hoping to learn the survival strategies of the Slowest that apply to some of the “slow” members of Congress.  Their survival has been a mystery to me — all the way back to when my Dad had to brief a member of New Mexico’s delegation about work being done at Sandia National Laboratory when I was in 9th grade.  An idealist taking my Civics course and learning from its highly positive narrative about government, I asked about his conversation.  “Dumbest person I’ve talked to this year” is what my memory supplies for his quote.

Since then, I’ve realized politicians fill a full range of an IQ curve.  But I’ve wondered how a few on the downslope to the left manage election in the first place, and then multiple re-elections, too.

    • The realist says:

Being dumb is an advantage for candidates in many places – constituents identify better with the dumb. AND, if you're John Neely Kennedy from Louisiana you're smart enough to pretend you're dumb. Very sad.

True. Sadly, braniacs don't elect well. I can name a few brilliant electoral losers.

Nobody likes the guy who sets the curve. He has to get stinking rich before that happens.

I don’t know if any of you are watching Succession on HBO but Logan’s son Connor announces near the end of season 1 that he plans to run for President as a conservationist on a platform of “no taxes – socialism “bad””.  It’s loosely written around the Murdoch family but the oldest son is such a moron and in such desperate need of daddy’s approval I sometimes think they’ve sprinkled a little Trumpism into the plot.

Adlai Stevenson once joked that a woman told him: "All the intelligent people are voting for you."

           " That's not enough, " he replied.  "I need a majority."

        • Early Worm says:

Duke, the only thing less electable than the guy that sets the curve is the woman that sets the curve. There is a portion of our male population that is terrified of a woman that is overtly and obviously smarter and more capable than they are. That is why I am concerned if, in Biden's absence, Harris is the nominee in 2024. I like her and would definitely vote for her, but will we have a rerun of 2016?

      • RepealAndReplace says:

Definitely…..John Neeley Kennedy, Harvard-educated lawyer and one-time Democrat, did a complete makeover and can now present himself as a member of the cast of "Hee Haw."

"Florida man charged after toddler fatally shot mom during Zoom call"
This headline on Yahoo! news, but it is all over the web.

The thing is, why charge dad?
If mom was armed she would be alive today.

This is what leadership looks like!! #MAGA

    • Diogenesdemar says:

You can lead a MAGAt to dodder, but you can't make him think . . .

      . . . "Don't Stop Thinkin' About Teh Donald . . ."

    • kwtree says:

I can’t fault the logic; They won’t “solve” the election fraud of 2020: because there wasn’t any . Hence, Republicans may not be voting in 22 or 24.

They’ll just whine and complain and cultivate victimhood.

      • Diogenesdemar says:

Ttump doesn’t give a flying ttump about Republicans (real or fake), their elections, or anything else . . .

. . . other than Ttump himself, and the adoration and fealty he is given or can coerce.

(. . . Of course it doesn’t hurt any if it might also help to put a goodly amount of jingle in his diaper pockets.)
