The Best Candidate in SD-32 Won

  • by: Proud Democrat

I’m not at all suprised that Romer won the SD-32 race.  He was by far the best candidate and worked harder than either of his opponents.  As shown by his large winning margin, the people of SD-32 love him and, just like me, are excited to see what he can do for us in the State Senate.

  1. Chris will be a terrific Senator.  I see you’re a “proud Democrat” but what about the party process?  Chris chose to skip the nomination by party assembly and got on the ballot by petition.  If the assembly process can’t produce the best candidate, why not make everyone petition on?

    1. I agree that everyone should petition on.  One of the reasons Romer won was because he talked to over 1,000 voters in the petition process.  It’s a good idea for candidates to be talking to real voters.  It’s the primary process that chooses the best candidate, not the caucuses.

      1. It is the job and purpose of the parties to nominate their candidates. The petition route is there as a safety net for those, like Chris, who choose to run against two well-established party insiders. Ultimately it is up to the voters to decide who will represent them, but it is up to the party to decide who they will promote.

I think we have a very equitable system of allowing people to go the assembly route or to petition on ot the ballot. I would not support efforts to change that.

I have nothing against Chris and will whole-heartedly support him in November. It is no secret that Jen Mello was my choice in the primary, but I am not disappointed with having Romer as a State Senator. I think he will serve our district well.

  2. I respect Chris and his accomplishments in his life.  I don’t live in SD32 so didn’t get to vote the way I would have liked, but I would have voted for Jennifer.

Chris had the hand up from the beginning and worked hard going door to door getting his message out.  Both ran strong campaigns but between his name and his money, he won.

  3. but his move into the district to run on the “legacy” or “dynasty” of his dad’s coat-tails just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It is a solidly democrat district, so no doubt he will be the next Senator for that district.

I just would have preferred the community activist Mello to the well-connected former Governor’s son.
