What you can do to fight for progress this week (April 5)

Last week, President Joe Biden announced the next transformative piece of his agenda: The American Jobs Plan. Building on the economic relief passed just a few weeks ago and now making its way into the economy, the American Jobs Plan represents the next step: Investing in America’s future, and building the infrastructure to keep America competitive in the global economy.

Infrastructure is about more than just fixing the roads. The American Jobs Plan is about modernizing transportation networks, energy grids, efficient construction and renovation, clean water supplies, information technology, domestic manufacturing, and so much more. And above all, it’s about jobs: The jobs created in building out infrastructure, and the jobs that hit the ground running because of these investments.

The American Jobs Act represents the biggest peacetime public investment in the American economy in nearly a century. Action item #1 this week: contact Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, and urge them to pass the American Jobs Plan without delay.

Once that’s done, here are a few more great ways to make a difference for the week of April 5! Help us make these events a success:

Conservation Colorado: Confronting The Climate Crisis

Hear from a panel of experts and leaders across the climate action movement talking about their work and the exciting progress that Colorado is making! Panelists include urban sustainability expert Dr. Corina McKendry and San Miguel County Commissioner Hillary Cooper. If you are passionate about the environment, love the outdoors, or want to learn about one of our time’s defining policy issues, you won’t want to miss this!

Adams County Legislative Preview & Town Hall

Please join Representative Yadira Caraveo, Representative Kyle Mullica, Representative Dafna Michaelson Jenet, and Representative Shannon Bird for a town hall on Monday, April 5th at 6:30 pm featuring representatives from across Adams County. This is a great opportunity for you to ask your questions about the 2021 legislative session and our response to the challenges facing our community. We will be holding the event over Zoom, and we will provide a Facebook live stream as well.

American Rescue Plan Telephone Town Hall with Rep. Jason Crow

Last month, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law. Coloradans in need are already receiving economic impact payments of up to $1,400 per qualifying individual, and more relief is on the way. This Tuesday, April 6 at 6 pm MST, I’m hosting a telephone town hall to talk about what’s in the American Rescue Plan and share how you can take full advantage of the new resources available.

Colorado Consumer Health Initiative: Socially Distanced Rally to Support Lower Rx Drug Prices

70% of Coloradans support the state creating a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, which means Big Pharma is spending BIG on lobbyists at the Capitol. Don’t let them overpower the voice of the people! Join us on April 9th for a safe, socially-distanced rally to support lower prescription drug costs. We will have pill bottle signs available for the first 30 people who sign up, where you can write your story or the message you’d like to send about why the legislature needs to take action to lower prescription drug costs.

Colorado Sierra Club: Transitioning to Healthy Homes & Buildings and Clean Jobs

As Colorado works to ensure a more sustainable and equitable future, it is essential we reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from residential and commercial buildings. In addition to achieving climate benefits, a move toward heating and powering our buildings by 100% renewable electric power can lower costs, improve indoor air quality, and develop new jobs during the transition away from methane gas and other fossil fuels. In this business-focused webinar, business leaders and experts will share how this transition benefits communities, workplaces and employment.

When: Tuesday, April 13 at 12:00pm

Colorado Sierra Club: Colorado New Volunteer & Activist Orientation

Learn about Colorado Sierra Club’s priorities from protecting public lands to climate action and how you can help. This is a great event for everyone looking to find fun ways to protect our communities and our planet from the comfort of your own home (for now). Volunteers play a crucial role at Sierra Club and are active at many levels. Volunteer activities include education at outreach events, advocacy, electoral work and helping to plan and execute campaigns. At the end of the event, we aim to connect you with at least one volunteer team for you to get involved with.
