Senate Race Spending Doubles From 2008

  • by: Colorado Pols

According to a study from Kantar Media/CMAG, media spending in 2010 on both Senate and House races is up exponentially from 2008.

Between Sept. 1 and Oct. 7, nearly $115 million has been spent on U.S. Senate races, compared to $62 million in 2008. The jump isn’t quite as big for House races, though it is still significantly more, from $51 million in 2008 to $84 million in 2010.

So what has made the bulk of the difference in spending in these last two years? It appears the prevalence of Republican interests groups has a lot to do with it. The top six interest groups that have spent the most money in 2010 are all aligned with Republicans.

  1. the politician or Party the spends the most getting elected… expects the most profit from the office in return.

Public Financing of Candidates is the only answer. the Politicians are supposed to work for us but as special interests and Lobbyists pay the most… Politicians do THEIR bidding.

In this case it is republicans expecting the return in profits.

        1. thus what ever the entity that DOES pay your tuition, pays for your tuition. But NOT YOU!

Thus you have NO idea what reality truly is.

Living off of some other entity’s teat is not a very good example of advocating denying others the same FREE RIDE you enjoy bj.

you should be ashamed of yourself bj. Hypocrite.

It’s funny when you try to pretend you have no bias Pols. Have you ever posted a pro Buck article?

    1. Everyone knows who put this money in.  They even have a nickname they’re so famous.  Ever heard of the “Four Horsemen?”  Even one of your own, Rob Witwer wrote about it in his book.  Our concern is who is trying to buy the election here?

  2. The total spent by outsiders on Buck’s behalf and the total spent by outsiders on Bennet’s is just about equal.  Over $6 million spent for them and/or against their opponent for each.

In the Colorado Senate race the effect has been to level the playing field.

      1. You are mixing apples and oranges.  When the chamber of commerce spends money we know about it, just not the individuals who have contributed.  The same is true for the Dem shaddowy groups.  The money spent is reported, just now who contributed.  When a union buys an ad for Bennet should they disclose all the members who contributed?  A vets group?

The positive in all the outside spending in my view is it helps offset the power of incumbency and the power of the political parties which formerly ruled the roost.  There is a reason why both political parties thought they could select their candidates for Senate.  In previous cycles they did.

        1. the total spent by outsiders

How do you know how much is spent by outsiders if you don’t know where the money is coming from?

Laundering money through a 527 group or other nonprofit is not sufficient to make that determination.  You claimed to know, based on a newspaper article, how much money is being spent by outsiders.

I say, “horseshit.”  You don’t know, any more than I do.

    1. The NEA just weighed in with a $1.3 million ad buy. I saw the ad. They are complaining Buck wants to cut funding for education. The Colorado NEA can point to their wildly successful graduation rate of 55% in urban areas. They have been funded for two years by a Union bought President and control of both houses yet they have not improved education.  Obama’s children go to private schools he is so confident in the NEA’s abilities.

Unions have been buying elections for Democrats for decades.

Let’s discuss who funds Coloradopols. Let’s discuss the money funding the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.
