Coffman With Big Money Lead in SOS Race

  • by: Colorado Pols

Republican Mike Coffman has a huge money lead over Democrat Ken Gordon in the race for Colorado Secretary of State.

Coffman raised about $63,000 in Q2, leaving him with about $83,000 cash on hand (keep in mind that Coffman transferred $68,000 from previous committees, including his short-lived gubernatorial campaign).

Gordon, meanwhile, is spending money?much faster than he is?raising it. Gordon raised about $69,000 in Q2, but he only has about $29,000 cash on hand…nearly one-third less than Coffman.

  1. A bit misleading…

Ken raised more than Coffman did, and Coffman gave himself a campaign-to-campaign injection?  Ken’s been gearing up early; I think it’s a strategy that will pay off if he can keep the money burn in a planned pattern.  Money in the bank isn’t everything.

  2. Good for Mike!! He also has better name recognition.  And he isn’t carrying around that Referendum C luggage.  Go get ’em Mike!!!!

  3. “Just like a Dem to spend faster than he can bring it in.”

Ummm, you might want to note Holtzman’s balance at the end of this quarter before you start pointing fingers.

To follow up with another math gnome attack: Gordon has raised over $70k and has spent about $42k, thus he is not spending faster than he can bring it in.

Just like a Rep to be able to be wrong twice in 13 words 😉

  4. Gordon raised more than Coffman in Q2!  Look at the numbers you shrills.

Gordon is bi-partisan, running a great bill during special session (one the Governor even wanted), worked with the current SOS on a bill during the regular session, and raised more money in Q2 than Coffman (a bag man for the Republican Elites.)

He’s running a grassroots campaign, while Coffman is allowing Rob Fairbank to run his.

  5. Gordon is one of the least bipartisan people in the legislature.  Anyone who has seen him in action knows he is a left wing flaming liberal (see Perlmutter for centrist, moderate)whose ex wife has screwed up our divorce/child custody laws – to the point the legislation he passed has been found unconstitutional.

  6. Sillyargument, I have no idea what you argumenty is other than you being a nut yourself.

    Look at the numebrs:

Coffman had over $60,000 in the bank to start with.  Gordon started his fundraising from scratch, and is out speaking to the voters and asking for individual checks.  Coffman is taking money from the big money bandits.

I think Gordon is going to be able to raise money while turning votes his way, instead of relying on the Country Club Elites.

Coffman maybe as nutty as you sillyargument (Rob Fairbank)!

  7. What law has Gordon passed that was ruled unconstitutional?  Why dont you put some fact into your sillyargument before bellowing out a bunch of cow-dung.

And to call a man who has won awards for working acorss the aisle, a flaming liberal is a laugh as well.  Go back to drawing board Rob.

  8. To attack a mans ex-wife is about a low as it goes.  Gordon’s personal life needs to be out of the reach of you slimey shrills.

But if you want to talk about Coffman’s dog pissing all over the Treasurers office, while his wife wouldn’t let the mut into her new house, go for it since it’s the dog you’re attacking.  Get it, it his dog.

  9. Then Gordon should leave his wife, who is a family law mediator, out of his legislation.

I said nothing about his ability to raise money.  I just said he was a liberal left wing Dem.  I am sure he’ll get plenty from Stryker, Bridges, Polis and Gill.

Exactly what law?  It was the one that said a parent who has a child cannot remove the child from the state unless they meet seven different criteria.  So, yes, he made the child involved in a custody dispute a ward of the state.

It was struck down as unconstitutional citing the fact that we live in a mobile society and the court has no jurisdiction over whether a parent can move to better the life of a child or not.

Remember the single mom who had no job opportunities here but had offers in her home state of Arizona and the court told her she was forbidden from moving eventhough it meant she could end her life of poverty?

    That was Gordon’s law.

  10. Yes, I was told by the courts that according to this law, I could not take my medical needs child with heart problems to lower altitude where he would have better quality of life because his dad, who has visitation rights, would be hindered.  Great law.

  11. Lovin it-

you said Gordon’s bipartisan, then you said he’s running a great bill.  What does the great bill do, and who is the Republican House sponsor?

  12. Right, sounds like a couple of Coffman goons (or just Rob Fairbank) are picking the bones of legislation that has absolutely nothing to do with the Secretary of State race.

So, someone remind me how those elctions in Iraq went? Since Coffman is going to run on the rhetoric, does any have the results behind it?

  13. Ken Gordon put the integrity of the legislature ahead of his political party when he called for an investigation into Deanna Hanna demand for reparations.  In doing so, he put Democratic control of the state Senate in jeopardy.  And yet the Coffman shills call Gordon a partisan flaming liberal?  Get real……..

  14. P.S.  If Ken Gordon’s ex-wife and his personal life come into the campaign, so too does Mike Coffman’s personal life, including his extremely brief first marriage.  Why did they divorce???  Inquiring minds want to know…..

  15. As for Gordon’s bill being introduced today it “requires a person to provide verifiable identification, in terms of citizenship, to register to vote, and vote,” according to the press release issued by the Dems.

Not sure as to which Republican is co-sponsoring or even if one will have the brass to do so.  When the Governor called for the special session, this was one of the issues inside the scope of the call that he wanted resolved.  He spoke about verifying ID at great length yesterday.  Since voting is Right of a US citizen, this is a good step toward securing that Right, especially for an SOS candidate.

If no R steps up to the plate on this bill, it will truly show how far they are willing to deny any bi-partisan resolve for their perceived political gain.

  16. I have just perused Ken Gordon’s website.  Pretty impressive resume.  I will be voting for him.  Though I am sure that he has made mistakes, maybe his legislation re child custody even had some flaws, he is a good, very intelligent, very learned fellow.  One can not always discern every negative likelihood in a piece of legislation.  Those often don’t come to light until a clever, resourceful attorney employing his/her best advocacy brings them out.  I have also had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours 2 years ago with Coffman.  He also is a very decent guy.  Whoever is the SOS will have responsibility of running a very large department.  Coffman has done that and by all appearances done it well. It seems to me that we have 2 very good candidates.  But, I believe that Gordon, much more than Coffman, represents the future and the hope of Colorado.
