          (Even, Fluffy will enjoy this one, I’m sure — all his heroes — while he’s busy counting all his money, and trying to get Jared to release America’s his emergency supply of national reserve Kleenex . . .)

          1. Sweet baby white prosperity Jesus.  The only thing they missed was the rosy projections by Wilbur <clears throat> our freaking commerce secretary <clears throat again> about how COVID was going to be a boon for the American economy.  

            Wilbur Ross’s prediction about the coronavirus helping the US economy could not have been more wrong

            Remembering that time Ross said the coronavirus “will help to accelerate the return of jobs,” 10 million unemployment claims later.

            While you’d be hard-pressed to find a take that has aged worse than Wilbur Ross arguing that the coronavirus would be good for US jobs, it’s worth noting that he was far from the only Trump administration official to make such rosy comments about the coronavirus. The remarks were criticized at the time they were made and look even more boneheaded now.

             

            1. Oh, but it will… see, when all of those millions do finally return to work, they’ll do it at an incredible rate compared to a normal recession. The monthly numbers will look great – in isolation from this month’s and next month’s numbers, anyway. Just think of Trump bragging – “best job gains ever!” And “a GDP rise like no-one’s ever seen!” Who cares that the yearly numbers will still suck, 30% of the people – maybe 40% – will fall down before him in awe over his prowess.

              1. And don’t forget…

                He personally saved the lives of 2,000,000 Americans. What a hero is our “wartime president”. 

                I’m almost tired of winning. 😣

                  . . . so now can we finally, please suspend #%!‰ing TABOR, and allow the elected representatives in Colorado to start planning how to fund recovery and necessary government services???

                  We finally got Greg with us, this one time, on the side of sanity; let’s not waste this historic opportunity . . .

            2. Wilbur may be correct for the short period of time that patriotism recoils at the prospect of trusting so much of our fate to any power other than our own but, in time, the stronger driving forces of capitalism and greed will return to the places of cheap labor.

              Rinse & repeat.

              Jared was naive, short-sighted and wrong again. The National Stockpile is not 'ours', it's theirs.

  2. Nice to see several people at the Zoom meetup yesterday … thanks to MichaelBowman for the solid technology that made it happen. 

    Stay safe … and help limit the damage by staying home.  I had another virtual gathering of friends yesterday — the medical professional among us told stories and talked about the preparations for the expected need that's coming.  Scary stuff.

    By one model's predictions,

    • if citizens do their part in staying home, and
    • if the disease is not worse than what is modeled, and
    • if all of the bed expansions Polis is working toward happen, and
    • if there are enough medical personnel to support the expansions —

    there may be sufficient capacity.

    2. It was a fun time.  Maybe next time I'll figure out how to add the video.   In the meantime, I've preserved my anonymity as if it matters one iota.

  5. At yesterday's "press conference" "Dr." Birks noted that she is especially concerned about Colorado.  I discount every positive utterance from her, but I think we should take her seriously when she makes a negative statement. 

    I wonder what she's talking about?  There's absolutely nothing to indicate we have a particular problem reported in today's Denver Post- Mortem.  Thoughts?

    1. No certainty of continued supply for those using the drug for existing ailments — lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

      nothing resembling a controlled trial to demonstrate effectiveness.

      My cynical mindset wants to know: for the company/companies manufacturing it, are their executives backing Trump?  were there recent stock purchases by politicians?

The best critics of Trump are conservatives and Republicans including Max Boot, Steve Schmidt (don’t miss any of his rants), Jennifer Rubin, Bill Kristol, Nicole Wallace, Joe Scarborough, etc.   In fact, I can’t name a Democrat that is as effective at tearing Trump a new one than these pundits.  Sigh.

  9. This is a beautifully-written article on Ageism in America – a place where we've become the society who sees our old – the keepers of wisdom – as the problem. 

    We Are Not Expendable!

    Yes, we have, indeed, come to a very sorry place in our history where we disregard and consider expendable those among us who have arrived at their most vulnerable stage in their lives.  These are the very same people who have paid their taxes for longer than some of these self-righteous and callus politicians on the Right have been alive.  They have also contributed to Social Security for decades, fought in wars in defense of this country, contributed their talents and sweat to the growth and well-being of this nation and have also given birth to many of us.  And now in this time that has been called ‘The Great Forgetting,’ they are being sacrificed by an indifferent government and by large swaths of the populace that has become numb and mute under the erratic and oppressive onslaught of a Lunatic-In-Chief.

    1. I watched a video clip of a nurse today. She was fighting back tears as she explained that she and her colleagues and co-workers feel "expendable". It is a big club nowadays. My Cat and I are members.

      The Divider in Chief is trying to subvert justice and the constitution, but I think it is important to remember and hold accountable those who aided and abetted this petty tyrant. He is not doing this by himself

      I am simply saddened by the thousands of innocent fools who will likely be led into oblivion by their evangelist preacher. I am very comforted that my mother, who attended a small fundamentalist church for most of her life, came to see the phoniness and hypocrisy that took over when the corporate mega-churches began funding and absorbing small rural churches by the thousands.

      My mothers' faith in her savior never waivered, but her faith in her church died at the hands of John Hagee..

      America is betrayed. Betrayed by greed and ego. Betrayed by hatred and suspicion. Betrayed by the man who would be king and the Greedy Old Patriarchs.

      It is time for the end of the Republican party. The reign of Donald the Inept must end soon.

            1. That is the big lie that $rump’s MAGAts never understood- their rich idol had already sold his soul, and had none left to care for them. He “couldn’t be bribed” because he was already bought. 
               

              I think that the same was true of Bloomberg- not sure about the other Democratic billionaire / millionaire candidates. I wanted to believe that Steyers and Yang were honest. 

  10. Colorado’s covid 19 outbreak will peak around April 17, according to the Gazette’s reporting of CDPHE’s modeling. We’ll need thousands of ventilators, and the Feds just bought Colorado’s ventilator  order out from under us, so we might not have enough to keep people alive.  Because Governor Polis isn’t a Trumper, and our Traitor in Chief is using life saving medical equipment as a political tool. 
     

    Any word on Cory Gardner standing up for Coloradans? Don’t hold your breath….
