"Yosemite Samantha" Assails Tipton Over "Amnesty Bill"

Lauren Boebert.

As the Grand Junction Sentinel’s Charles Ashby reports, upstart CD-3 Republican primary challenger Lauren Boebert broadsided GOP incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton over his recent vote with “Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and 224 other Democrats” in favor of a new farm worker visa program bill:

Rifle restaurant owner Lauren Boebert, who announced last month that she is challenging the four-term congressman in the June primary, said that when Tipton voted for the Farm Workers Modernization Act of 2019 last month, he was voting for a pathway to citizenship for “illegal farm workers and their families.”

That bill, which established a new certified agricultural worker status and revamped parts of the nation’s H-2A agricultural visa program, cleared the U.S. House on Dec. 11 on a 260-165 vote. Thirty three other House Republicans voted for the bill along with Tipton, the only GOP representative in Colorado’s congressional delegation to do so.

“It was certainly shocking that you voted alongside Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and 224 other Democrats to give amnesty to millions of illegal farm workers and their families,” Boebert wrote. “To then falsely claim, ‘This is NOT an amnesty bill” is a good indicator of why you should no longer be representing hardworking American citizens in Congress. How stupid do you believe voters are?”

Although it would be disingenuous for Democrats to directly criticize Rep. Tipton for voting with them and against an overwhelming majority of fellow Republicans, this vote could still be a big problem for Tipton in a Republican primary. There’s nothing that gets the blood of rock-ribbed conservative primary voters up like “caving” on immigration, and since President Donald Trump has made demonizing immigrants a central GOP campaign plank Tipton’s vote with Democrats on this bill is even more problematic–again, not in the general election, but Tipton has to get there first.

We said previously that Boebert’s best strategy is to seize the ideological momentum among hardcore GOP primary voters from Tipton, and successfully sell herself as a stronger conservative and more than just a novel personality. It still remains to be seen whether Boebert can compete down the stretch with Tipton’s well-oiled re-election machine, but savaging Tipton over this vote is strategically right on target.

Boebert says her objective is to become the “conservative AOC.” So far, so good.

  1. Somebody has to pick those crops; a job that Americans generally don't want to do. Where does she think that the lettuce she puts on her burgers, during the winter, comes from?

    1. They are morons, CHB. (Or is it "morans"?)

They believe there is this mythical herd of Americans just waiting to take jobs picking fruit and veggies for sub minimum wage, or cutting lawns, or cleaning toilets, or flipping burgers in McD's and who have had those great jobs stolen from them by foreigners.

    2. Somebody doesn't believe in supply and demand.  These jobs can be filled by Americans if you pay the right amount — $10/hour; $15/hour; $40/hour.

      Someone sounds like a Communist.

      1. So let's see, first you make the illegal immigrants disappear. Mandatory e-Verify and making a couple of growers do the perp walk ought to take care of that.

Then, pay high enough wages to get underemployed Americans to do stoop labor – say $40/hr when unemployment is under 4%.

Then watch as City Market buys all its veggies from Mexico, putting local growers out of business. Growers stay alive by selling their water rights to Denver, Vail Resorts, and Encana. Those water rights ain't coming back.

Watch the For Sale signs go up Main Street in every small town on the Western slope as cheatgrass overruns the fields.

Yosemite Sam has quite a vision for the Western Slope.

  2. Be careful, Alva….

We aren't suppose to talk about hard lefties as mirror images of hard righties. Or vice versa.

Even when Yosemite Samantha describes herself as the right wing AOC.

  3. Calamity Jane will have to raise some money first. Then she might explain to the mostly Republican farmers and ranchers in the 3rd District how they'll find workers to harvest the fruit and tend the sheep.

  4. Since Tipton's not conservative enough (holy crap, did I really just type that?), I guess Samantha's next best step if she can't win the R primary would be to run as an independent in the general election!

    1. You mean like these Cesar Chavez parks??

You enjoy being ironically outrageous, posting really inflammatory, borderline racist things under the “Aw shucks, just kiddin ’ doncha have a sensa Yuma?” persona.

They’re still inflammatory and borderline racist.

Cesar Chavez was an inspiring leader a proponent of nonviolence in the traditions of Gandhi and MLK,  and a thoughtful human being. I’d like to see entire Departments of Labor named after him. Most modern young people have never heard of him. His story is rarely taught in schools.

    1. If she doesn't take him out in the primary, he will likely be re-elected. He won't suffer from Republican voters defecting. They wouldn't vote for Diane for any reason. No matter what.

IMHO, the only way DMB pulls it out is GOTV. Period.

      1. I concur with Duke. GOTV by Democrats, particularly in Pueblo, is the only way Tipton goes. Diane should camp in Pueblo and campaign in Dem counties such as the San Luis Valley, resort counties and others where she can come close. Mesa, Montrose, Delta, Rio Blanco are not those counties.

I don't think Calamity Jane can come close in a primary. She's entertaining though.
