  1. Eyes on the prize – from Hahvahd law prof Noah Feldman:

Unless the Democrats win both the presidency and the Senate in 2020, the next decade will likely see a sharp turn to the right on the (U.S. Supreme) court. If the two oldest and most liberal justices on the court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg (86) and Stephen Breyer (81), are replaced by other liberals, the court will still lean right. If they are replaced by conservatives, the rightward shift will be generational.

      1. Uh, probably not.  There certainly is not a 2/3rds majority of the Senate who would convict and remove someone for being a conservative.

The more likely answer would be to size up the federal courts proportionate to the population and appoint. For the Supreme Court, size it so each Justice supervises one Circuit. “There are 13 appellate courts that sit below the U.S. Supreme Court, and they are called the U.S. Courts of Appeals.”

        1. Sizing up the courts requires legislation.  No way it gets through the Senate so long as the GOP controls, and sadly, I think the GOP retains control after the 2020 election

      1. “I’ve seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the Fair Deal, and says he really doesn’t believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don’t want a phony Democrat. If it’s a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don’t want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.”

        — Harry S Truman (1884-1972) US President (1945-1953)
Address, Americans for Democratic Action Convention (17 May 1952)

        cough……Biden….cough cough Hickenlooper…

  2. Shot (2018):

Dem leaders rally behind anti-abortion rep in tough primary contest

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Joseph Crowley (N.Y.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, have all come out vocally in recent days to throw their weight behind the incumbent, a centrist Blue Dog leader being challenged by a liberal anti-bullying activist who’s questioning Lipinski’s Democratic bona fides.

“I support Dan,” Crowley said this week.

    Chaser (2020):

  3. Well, we might possibly be at war with Iran. We've just assassinated the head of the Quds Force, who was Khamenei's closest advisor. He also happens to be the purported architect of much of Iran's meddling in the Middle East over the years, but still – he's perhaps the #2 or #3 guy in their government.

Iranian state TV is running non-stop prayers and pictures of Gen. Soleimani. Looks like they intend to make him a full martyr.
