  1. I didnt read through the 100+ post on the previous thread, since it would be a waste of my time like the GOP assembly in the Springs, but did any notice how similar to the votes at the assembly and the Pols thread a few back?  Holtzman cannot win anywhere.

  2. Personally I had a great experience at the Democratic assembly this weekend.  Bill Winter brought the house down, and I met a bunch of really great people.  The only thing missing was the bong and a drum circle, people got along so well!  The sense we all had was that the Democrats are coming together, polishing up their armor and swords and ready to do the Braveheart battle cry for November!  I went aweay feeling inspired and ready to work.

  3. Druid, I love that Braveheart battle cry; such courage in support of a vanishing order.  Don’t forget to play out the scene where Braveheat is eviscerated.  That’s gonna’ hurt!  Well maybe not as much if you smoke some medical marijuana first.:)

  4. WHEN WILL THE CURRENT BURSH ADMINISTRATION SMELL THE COFFEE?  Bush and Blair have no plans in ever leaving Iraq.  The minute things improve, they use spiral model to increase their stay (their desire of rebuilding the country, grabbing the wealth of oil reserves), which then incites the insurgency!  In order for US and Great Britian to be successful, we will need to allow the people of Iraq to lead their own nation …

Blair: No excuse for Iraq violence
Premier gives no timetable for withdrawal: ‘Peace will allow us to go’

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — After meeting with the leaders of Iraq’s new government, British Prime Minister Tony Blair called its inauguration a “new beginning” that removes any excuse insurgents have to commit violence.

“There is now no vestige or excuse for people to carry on with terrorism or bloodshed,” Blair told reporters at a joint news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

“If the worry of people is the presence of the multinational forces, it is the violence that keeps us here. It is peace that will allow us to go,” Blair added.

The British PM admitted that the return to democracy since the 2003 invasion had been “longer and harder” than he had hoped.

  5. Druid,

You’re right–this weekend in Greeley was really an opportunity to rally the troops, and I think it succeeded hugely.  I had a great time.  I hadn’t heard Jay Fawcett before, and he was great.  And Bill Winter could run for President.  He had everyone on their feet over and over again.

    Go Fighting Dems!

  6. “Well maybe not as much if you smoke some medical marijuana first.:)”

    …………………..

Not a bad idea!  Wanna join me?  We may loose and we may win it matters not.  What matters is that you stick up for what you feel is right.  It is NOT about winning for me.  It is about coming together and making the good fight.  It feels damn good to be a Democrat!

  7. The talk of the Dem Assembly was CD5s own Jay Fawcett!!!  Not only did he completely blow out Curtis Imerie and Brian Scott (who is this guy!) but he brought the house to their feet on Saturday with “If the Republicans want to talk about God, Guns and Gays.. I believe in God, I own a Gun and if you are Gay, you are covered by the Constitution!”

    I love this guy!

Also, got word this morning that Jay has been endorsed by The ONLY General that matters – General Wes Clark!

So bring on Crank, I’ll take his three generals (who were they again?) and raise you the only general that matters, General Wes Clark.  I also hear that Clark may be coming out to campign for Jay.

Add this to the polling data, his ability to fundraise, the fact that even CD5 republicans are fed up with direction of this country – I’d bet on a Democratic victory in CD5!

  8. Druid, I hope that all of your party shares your philosophy–keep standing up for what you “feel” is right.  Hope it is not about winning for Bill Ritter or any of your candidates as well.

Maybe you can get all of your like minded Dems to vote for the Green Party even.  You can stick together and make a really good fight there.  That would feel really good!  Absolute righteousness and not a chance of winning–go for it!!

  9. AS the drool and spittle oozed out of his mouth rank&file was heard to utter, “not a chance of winning–go for it!!” With a reality based supporter such as yourself your party is in good hands. Please just keep believing that, it makes it so much easier for us to win. Adios, sucker.

  10. Druid —

Absouletly NOTHING wrong with being a Democrat.  Actually, everything is WRONG about being a Republican.  The Republicans of today, are simply NOT what once was the basis of their thinking.  The worst part of them is in their tactic to remove the voice of the democrats, to create a dupicated failure of the Roman Empire.  Authoritarian rule simply leads to an end of that way of thinking.  The only true measure of a successful country is in the ability of the PEOPLE in a fair and honest manner, vote and decide the future of a nation.  The wealthy Republicans *think* they have all the answers, which they obviously don’t — which lead to a vicious circle of their stupid claim that war is RIGHT and leads to peace and tranquility.  Yeah, WRONG !!!

  11. ritter avoids the water issue but impressively takes on the energy issue:
    http://www.ritterforgovernor.com/issuesEE.cfm

BB ignores energy but talks about water:
    http://www.bobbeauprez.com/issues/bob_beauprez_on_water.asp

holtzman thinks a paragraph is enough space to address both energy and water:
    http://www.marc2006.com/landing_2.asp?reid=A3U2103887DE

the contrast is interesting. i am still undecided, but ritter is beginning to pull me his way with his actual in-depth discussion of the energy topic.

  12. Mary–You missed the point–too busy foaming at your liberal mouth no doubt. I think the Dems could win–heaven forbid.  But, I think the more people like Druid you have, the less likely that is-we want to encourage you and them to do what they feel is absolutely right–even joining the Green Party.  Go ahead.  Tell the voters what you really would like to do–take control of their pocketbooks, their children, and their lives; put jumping mice and spotted owls ahead of people.  No doubt, you and your party know whats best for us–citizens couldn’t know what was best for them, they might choose wrong.  Socialism–plain and simple.  I gotta’ quit–I’m scaring myself.

  13. It should be no surprise tht Both Ways Bob is soft-peddling his siupport for energy corporations (by not discussin energy, BWB apparently hopes that his potential constituents won’t know that he is selling out our future, our state, for the fat-cat corporate bosses.  No surprise.

BOB-name YOU energy policy for Colorado

From Center for Responsive Politics (www.opensecrets.org), 2004 cycle, BWB got-

41% of his money from PACs
$193,000 from the energy sector ($92,000 from energy PACs)

  14. ColoradoPols —

I have very much enjoyed the debate and comments in the political arena (thank goodness for our 1st Amendment) — discussed in the many weeks.  However, I must now seek a position that requires a great deal of my time and energy.  Good luck to all of you and I wish you the best …

    PS. One last post —

    Bush’s faith worries Albright
    http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/22/albright.bush.reut/index.html
    Monday, May 22, 2006; Posted: 11:18 a.m. EDT (15:18 GMT)

LONDON, England (Reuters) — U.S. President George W. Bush has alienated Muslims around the world by using absolutist Christian rhetoric to discuss foreign policy issues, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says.

“I worked for two presidents who were men of faith, and they did not make their religious views part of American policy,” she said, referring to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, both Democrats and Christians.

“President Bush’s certitude about what he believes in, and the division between good and evil, is, I think, different,” said Albright, who has just published a book on religion and world affairs. “The absolute truth is what makes Bush so worrying to some of us.”

  15. will BWB keep COLORADO’s interests at heart, or is he a shill for the corporate masters that want to develop, drill, and desecrate?  You decide-

  16. I’m sure Druid’s dedication is admirable, but rank&file is right — once Democrats start worrying less about how it feels and more about how to win, they’ll be a much more formidable force.  Plus, if you think being a Democrat feels good now, wait until they can actually start winning campaigns across the country.

The Democrats need people under the tent who aren’t Democrats because it feels good, they’re Democrats because it’s right.  As in correct.  Moral.  And when they don’t care how it feels they’ll be a lot closer to winning.

  17. How about we’re right AND we win?  Can’t we do both?

Speaking of winning – Fern O’Brien put the smack down on Bob Johnson, who I’ve never ever heard of but I’m sure is a great guy.  Both were completely unknown just a few months ago and Fern came out of Saturday’s voting with 93% to Bob’s 6%.

And I love the “working mother from Gunbarrel” line – that’s how you win state wide.

  18. Would you shut up Druid?  I’m a Democrat who was very, very encouraged by the Democratic assembly this weekend.  The Democrats come out of the assembly a strong force for November.

However, I can’t beleive you.  You come on a statewide blog read by thousands of people and post that the convention was great, compare smoking a bong to the assembly, and say that this isn’t isn’t about winning?  What is politics about if it isn’t about winning?  You get abosolutely NOTHING if you lose.

I want to make clear this year is completely about winning the House and the Senate again.  It is about getting a Democrat in the Governor’s mansion for the first time in 12 years.  It is about winning the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and the 7th.  The fight does not matter unless we win regardless of how right we feel.

  19. Double Digits,

As I’ve said before, I really like that O’Brien’s cares about rural issues.  She was up in Greeley and Sterling last week, and her announcement tour covered every major city in the state.  Suthers is a Denver lawyer and I think he forgot that people exist outside of the C-470 beltway!  From where I sit I think O’Brien can put together a winning state-wide coalition, and I know that I for one will be strongly supporting her.

I also love the working mother part, and could someone have a better home for a Colorado election than Gunbarrel?!

  20. “put jumping mice and spotted owls ahead of people.”

Thanks for the laugh rank & file, UR2funny

Putting profit before people, jumping mice, spotted owls, the air we breath is what you meant to say, right? The brown cloud that obscures the mountains is not indecent to you?  Try this for size, having “dominion” as expressed in Genesis 1:28, for you creationists, is explicit in it’s commands regarding the food you eat and the way you are to treat life. (That which has breath) Of course selective reading, “manly” interpretation and money were things that really pissed off Jesus and brought about His crucifixion.  (See Pharisees, Saducees and money changers at the Temple) When you are done with that, try Isaiah 66:1-6 (notice the three sixes?) and see what it says about killing cows, etc.  Maybe the mark of the beast is all about what eating the beasts does to people, dunno, but there’s something wrong with us.  Anyone see HBO’s “Baghdad ER” last night? Best anti-war documentary I’ve ever seen and the Army Medical Corps is going to use it for a training film.  If you are a draft dodging Republican war profiteer, be sure to keep a barf bag handy.

  21. Fern and Bobby both started out at dead zero, and Fern got 94% at the assembly!!!!!!!  I’d say she has to be taken as something of a phenomenon at this point.

Watch your back, Suthers, the Fernmeister is commin’ atcha!

  22. Splitting hairs today or what?  I get on and post about how great the state assembly was and you guys roast me?  Count me confused.  I think, feel, and know that Dems are really going to be a force to be reckoned with from now on in Colorado.  And that FEEEEELLLLLSSSS great.

I FEEL like we will take some heads and win some seats.  I FEEL like watching many Dems win the elections and know that it will happen.  But to me the fight is more important than the spoils.

  23. This is what Both Ways Bob is silent about. Making us a police state may be ok to you Republicans out there, but not for us America lovinig Democrats.

In 2003 AT&T built “secret rooms” hidden deep in the bowels of its central offices in various cities, housing computer gear for a government spy operation which taps into the company’s popular WorldNet service and the entire internet. These installations enable the government to look at every individual message on the internet and analyze exactly what people are doing. Documents showing the hardwire installation in San Francisco suggest that there are similar locations being installed in numerous other cities.
They’re spying on EVERYTHING that happens on the Internet, EVERYTHING you do, that means emails, chats, IMs, Web sites you visit, pictures you send, and any video chats you have.

    Then there’s this:
In San Francisco the “secret room” is Room 641A at 611 Folsom Street, the site of a large SBC phone building, three floors of which are occupied by AT&T.

Well, if I worked in that building, I’d be getting my ass out of there pronto. And I’d sue AT&T as the reason I’m breaking my lease. I wouldn’t feel safe being in the building that Al Qaeda now knows is THE center of America’s domestic eavesdropping program. Way to go AT&T, you’d just made every American telecom employee a suspected agent of the CIA when they travel abroad. Lovely.

  24. The Democrat Asembly this weekend WAS great.  Druid, Terb and others, wish I’d made arrangements to meet you. The meetings were well run, every candidate got more time than they were allotted and we still all got to get on the road long before the dinner hour.
The Dems are enthused and we are going to win a lot more than we fail in November.  Colorado will be much better off for our efforts.
Tancredo better begin to apply at some trade schools because he is going to be unemployed in January. Crank can continue lobbying.  Kennedy will be a great Treasurer and Gordon a great Sec of State.  Geez, the GOP even had their Sec of State in the assembly and still couldn’t do that tiny election without great difficulty.  The Dems have some great folks running for State House and Senate also.
Tomorrow is going to be bright.

  25. Gray in the Mountains,

Don’t worry, once we regain majorities nationally and get a Democratic Governor, we can go back to infighting.  🙂

I do like how the State legislature has done what it said it would in terms of legislative priorities and allocating the Ref C money, and been open and transparent about it.  Their “Promises Made, Promises Kept” slogan works well because it’s true.  It was really nice to see so many people united in Greeley.

  26. Since I was in COS instead of Greeley, could someone tell me what kind of person Ritter is?  I feel I have a good idea of his political positions, but I like to take the whole individual into account.  Does he keep his committments?  Is he able to bridge gaps between groups?  How does he treat those who work for him?  These are my “litmus tests”.

Also, what was the rhetoric about immigration in Greeley?  Seemed even the CU Regent candidates were trying to take a hard stance in thier speeches – I thought it inappropriate.

I was satified with the vote in COS, although it was a long wait.  What I thought was interesting was Bob M. “refuting” the rumor that one campaign was causing the hold up.  This not only passed the rumor to everyone there, but gave it validity.  Shortly thereafter a man near me in line said, “I have just become partial.  Someone hand me a Beauprez sticker!”

  27. I see ColoPols has now shown Ritter tied with BB, but BB has the momentum……..that combined with Patriot posting his supposed last blabbering words makes for this to be a fine fine Monday.

  28. Capital K,
I volunteer on Bill Ritter’s campaign and can tell you that he is a very principled man.  Before I volunteered, I had 3 in depth conversations with him.  Yes, he is a man of his word!  The staff is great and really loves him.  You could see it at the State Assembly.  He will be an outstanding governor.  Hope you join us as we elect Bill Ritter as our next governor for Colorado.

  29. Tsk, tsk, tsk.  The Dems seem to know well about a ‘culture of corruption’.  If it isn’t small fries like William Jefferson, it’s the big dogs like Hillary!  and Kerry.

Milberg Weiss gave top Democrats funding

WASHINGTON – Milberg Weiss Bershad & Schulman LLP, the securities class action law firm indicted last week on fraud charges stemming from corporate lawsuits it filed, made large political contributions almost exclusively to Democrats since 1999, records show. The firm and individuals there made $2.78 million in campaign donations to Democrats since 1999 compared to about $22,000 to Republicans.

Among the recipients were New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is a possible 2008 presidential candidate, senior New York Senator Charles Schumer and Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential candidate in 2004.

On top of the $2.78 million, lawyers in the firm made contributions to New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who is the Democratic candidate for governor. Spitzer’s office said on Monday that he plans to return $124,455 in contributions.

  30. Great….these idiots get us into a permanent war. Hello cold war, redux.

“The U.S. military is already gearing up for this outcome [long-term ‘containment’ of violence], but not for ‘victory’ any longer. It is consolidating to several ’superbases‘ in hopes that its continued presence will prevent Iraq from succumbing to full-blown civil war and turning into a failed state.”

    Incompetent……hold them accountable!

  31. Only question – why do we already have “SUPERBASES” BUILT? I thought we were there only until the Iraqis could do it themselves – so what were the supoerbases for? Sorry, all I ask for is consistency of logic – not rhetoric. Where did my Grand Old Party go? It ain’t so Grand, though it is old and I just heard Don Meredith signing in the background.

  32. El Paso Rockefeller Republican, I was where you are now a number of years ago.  (The Superbases are to protect “our” oil supply, see the map developed by the Energy secret working group).  I lost faith twelve years ago and changed my party registration when it became apparent that the GOP priorities were not my priorities.  No regrets!  although I am the black sheep in my family for doing so, I am the only one who watches the news.

  33. Looking for some info after this weekend’s assemblies:

Does anyone have a link showing the following:

    (1) The Colorado State Democratic Party Platform
    (2) The Colorado State Republican Party Platform
    (3) A list of Republican US Representative candidates (or primary contenders)
    (4) A list of Republican US Representative candidates (or primary contenders) Although, I think the only Dem primary is in CD7.

    Thanks for your help.

  34. (4) above was suppose to read as follows:

    (4) A list of Republican US DEMOCRATIC candidates (or primary contenders) Although, I think the only Dem primary is in CD7.

    so sorry.
