Senate Votes for Big-Ass Fence

  • by: Colorado Pols

From the Associated Press:

The Senate agreed to give millions of illegal immigrants a shot at U.S. citizenship and backed construction of 370 miles of triple-layered fencing along the Mexican border Wednesday, but prospects of the legislation clearing Congress were clouded by a withering attack against President Bush by a prominent House Republican.

Amid increasingly emotional debate over election-year immigration legislation, senators voted 83-16 to add fencing and 500 miles of vehicle barriers along the southern border. It marked the first significant victory in two days for conservatives seeking to place their stamp on the contentious measure.

The prospects were less favorable for their attempt to strip out portions of the legislation that could allow citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants and create new guest worker programs.

  1. Whoever builds it, you go girl! What the fuck is this compassionate emphasis on the struggling illegal alien’s “rights” as opposed to the rights of citizens of this SOVEREIGN country’s rights to protect its borders? I mean, duh!, ain’t buyin’ that crap about a North American Union where borders are meaningless and the sovereignty of nations is, well, just simply insignificant. Bush should just head for Crawford and stay there for the remainder of his incumbency. Let the other dullards take the heat until the next elections.

  2. The sovereignty of nations in America are much more threatened by strengthening multi-national corperations, than a bunch of disempowered folks from Mexico, Guatamala, or where ever.  We are working our way towards becoming a third world country allright.  And the benifits go to…..Haliburton et al.  They got to be laughing their heads off, making money after money after money and nobody even seems to notice.  And if folks start noticing (hey I thought this war in iraq was to prevent gas from skyrocketing) they just (through their man Bush)create a distraction by demonizing someone, gays, mexicans, muslums, …..

Its not that folks pouring into our country isnt alarming or bad.  Its just that building a fence will not fix our decent into 3rd worldness.

Strengthening our sovergnty from multinational corps would be the way to actually do something about it.

  3. This is your brain.

This is your brain on drugs:

    Any questions?

  4. Lelele,

Perhaps you need to invest in some adult education classes. Your bad grammar, poor punctuation, and incorrect word usage is laughable. It says you’re an idiot without even evaluating the content of your post.

  5. Thanks for the laugh this morning Lelele!

It’s about our border and security (dude, or chic).

What’s even more critical is, it’s about jobs and good wages for citizens.

You must have worked for a conglomerate or multi-nat’l and got the boot.  Hope you’re allright now.

  6. lelele,

Well said.  Building a fence doesn’t address the real economic situation that engenders illegal immigration, and threatens American prosperity as well.

(Just ignore the wingnuts.  You can see “shoot the messenger” is the only game they know.)

  7. I agree with Hippoponymous with this one.. Building a fence doesn’t address the issues of this situation enough.. That’s why I am a huge advocate of the Korea solution. Let’s put some freakin’ land mines on the border and poison those damn water stations they keep setting up. These people are “invading” our country “illegally” and should be dealt with accordingly.

  8. Alas! The US is building its own Berlin Wall.

    What an ignorant comment.

I guess it’s actually (and unfortunately) necessary to point out that the Berlin Wall was built by communists in order to keep the people IN the country.

  9. Berlin Wall was built by communists

Oh, that’s right, being a Bushie you would like us to make sure it’s distinguishable as a free trade wall, built by the multi-national corporation in service to the oligarch masters.
    Duly noted.
