Beauprez Asks Holtzman To Step Aside

  • by: Colorado Pols

Does Bob Beauprez think he has the votes to keep Marc Holtzman below the 30% threshold to make the primary ballot at Saturday’s Republican state assembly? It sure sounds that way, after a letter sent by the Beauprez campaign asking Holtzman to pull out of the race if he doesn’t get enough votes on Saturday. From The Denver Post:

Gubernatorial candidate Marc Holtzman on Tuesday rejected a request by his opponent, fellow Republican Bob Beauprez, who asked him to drop out of the race if he doesn’t get enough support to automatically make the primary ballot.

In a letter, Beauprez urged Holtzman to accept the “will of the delegates” at Saturday’s GOP convention and not petition onto the Aug. 8 ballot if he fails to collect the required 30 percent of the delegates. The convention, attended by about 3,000 delegates, nominates GOP candidates.

Holtzman dismissed the request and said he plans to continue campaigning until the August primary, regardless of what happens Saturday. He said Beauprez has not participated in “meaningful debates” that would allow voters to clearly understand the two candidates’ positions…

…Beauprez asked Holtzman, a former president of the University of Denver, to drop his petition drive to “send a message that we respect and value the time, effort and traditions of our State Party by accepting the will of the delegates.” Beauprez said Holtzman should step aside if he doesn’t get 30 percent of the delegates…?

  1. BB really does think we owe him this.  Sorry Bob, you have to earn it by getting support from the grassroots.  Earning support from a fraction of the party’s powerbrokers doesn’t guarantee you anything.  Maybe you should file another frivolous lawsuit against Marc, afterall how dare he actually campaign against C & D.

  2. The Beauprez camp should leave Holtzman’s campaign alone.  Holtzman and Lola are self destructing.  Don’t get in their way!  The silly things the Holtzman campaign embellishes.  Lola’s letter on winning in 2004 and then the Holtzman ad?  Ref C money goes to illegal immigrants?  Voters want honesty.  Wise up MH!

  3. The convention this Saturday represents only a small minority of Republicans.  Doesn’t Both Ways Bob know there is more to the political process than the “will of the delegates”?

Get out there and petition, if necessary, Holtzman and bring on the August Primary.  That will tell the real story about who the majority of Colorado Republicans want as their nominee for governor!

  4. Politicians that try and avoid primaries annoy me.  A good primary is good for the process and always makes the party stronger in the long run.

  5. BB…what’s up with all the negativity…the sham law suit, so conveniently timed…the phone calls accusing MH of hiding something in his tax returns (yeah, like maybe his privacy!)

I’m a delegate to the convention, and I can tell you that not only has this turned me off to BB, but if he does become the nominee, I may not be able to support a man who speaks evil (not verifiable) of a fellow republican.

  6. …have to agree with you somebody.  The “will” of the delegates is a small fraction of the party.  Personally, I think there ought to be a primary.  Let the grassroots speak in August.

  7. As a true Conservative I support Marc. I hereby demand that BB step down as candidate. Marc will win the primary because there are many more of us than in the “Republican Power Broker” camp. We are the silent majority of the GOP. Marc, keep running, keep trying, we’re behind you all the way.

  8. It’s funny to read the posts from the liberals who were going beserk over a potential run by Hickenlooper.

As I recall, when “St. John of Hickenlooper” entered the race, it was going to mean (they demanded) that Bill Ritter (you remember him, don’t you?) step aside for St. John.

So much for the value of the primary and the grassroots in that situation.

  9. So you mean that all of those signatures I sent to the MH headquarters would go for naught?  HMMMM.  Hey BB, if you don’t make things your way on Satruday, what will happen?

Will you cry?  Stomp your feet?  Come up with another lawsuit?  How about another lame Soros attack.  Ya, people saw your idiots handing out the stuff.  They: 1) shouldn’t be approaching Holtzman supporters, 2) be approaching Holtzman supporters who are wearing T-shirts for MH, 3) approaching Holtzman supporters who are wearing T-shirts with BB stickers, and 4) be supporting BB in the first place.

  10. Now there’s a joke.  Prior to the Precinct Caucuses I posted on here that Bob Beauprez’ strategy was to keep Holtzman off of the ballot by beating him at the assembly.  However, that didn’t work so well for the BB people.  Holtzman did better than expected.

Then Bb thought that they would take control at the Division level.  that didn’t work as expected.  Now thay are trying to forge some bogus “Gentlemen’s Agreement” as to help BB simply because BB will have a tough time raising money.

Let me see.  I spend a deal of money putting forth TV ads, I obtain signed petitions to get on the ballot, would I step aside?  Don’t think so.  The reality is that BB is hurting and doesn’t want to show it.  By ending things at the assembly, he gets a free pass and all of the BO lackies keep their jobs.

FLASH:  Bob Beauprez is alergic to Mylanta.  Guess that ulcer is growing by the day.

  11. hey Colopols.  Where’s the headlines: Holtzman responds to Beauprez request to step aside.  Denver — In a very unusual manner, Marc Holtzman today responded to Bob Beauprez’ requests that he step aside by sending him a picture of the south end of a north bound elephant.

The photo is appropriate in many regards because Holtzman is considered to be an anti-establishment person, while Beauprez is viewed as continually looking like the south end of the north bound elephant parade.

Holtzman cited such issues as Beauprez’ unwillingness to debate issue, frivilous law suits, negative ads, bogus George Soros garbage, attacks on Holtzman’s credibility by questioning Holtzman’s involvement with Citizens for America, Robo calls, fictitious e-mails,…

Sorry, Holtzman became exhausted after naming just a few of the many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, attacks that he has withstood.  Needless, when contacted, neither Bob Beauprez nor John Marshal were available for comment.  A staffer said they had to go out in search of an ample supply of Mylanta.

  12. While I can’t speak for the Holtzman Campaign, I would simply say this……Hey BBBBBBBBBBBBoooooooobbbbbbb, BBBBBBBBrrrrriiiinnnnggggg iitt on bbbbbuuudddddddyyyy.

GO MARC GO, WIN MARC WIN.

Bob’s slogan:  Run Bob Run away from your record.

  13. Hey Anonymous & Bottom Line, you have it so right.

It really is stupid for Beauprez supporters to try to pass off the Soros misinformation to Holtzman supporters wearing his t-shirts. Did this really happen?
It’s this kind of activity that splits the party.

As we have known all along, the Beauprez camp is afraid of Holtzman in the primary. To ask Holtzman to step down now is wrong. Holtzman owes it to his supporters to go all the way.

There should be a primary. Beauprez has declined to debate Holtzman. How do we really know how he stands? Both Ways Bob reminds me of “if I don’t agree with you now, just wait awhile and I will” At least we all know how Holtzman stands (he does take a stand) and it reprsents me a lot more than Beauprez does.

I agree with mrhandy, the “The Gentleman’s Agreement” is nothing but “Political intimitation.” BB wouldn’t step down.

  14. I undersrand there’s a new Beauprez bumper sticker coming out. It says “RUN BOB RUN”. There is a big market for them. The Beauprez supporters can get them for their rear bumper and the Holtzman supporters can get them for the front bumper.

  15. Man, how did the Republican party get this low in quality candidates so quickly?  Neither of these two mutts should be running anywhere but a kennel. Eight years of Owens and NONE of his cabinet is ready to step up (and no, MH doesn’t count because he didn’t actually DO anything).

  16. Yeah, right, Xeno.  On the other side, we have the John Hickenlooper Stand-in.

What’s his name?  Bill … Smith?  Thompson?  Come on, you know who I mean… the guy that was campaigning for 6 months before Hick’s name was being drafted… the guy who was going to be forced out if Hick decided to run… what’s that guy’s name?  Bill….. Hanzlik?  (No, he played for the Nuggets…)  Bill…. somebody…

    Darn…

  17. I came home yesterday to find a rather ugly robo call from Beauprez or his supporters.  What a turn off!  Candidates should inform the voters of their qualifications and accomplishments, and differences with their opponent.  Smear tactics and innuendo are unnecessary and reflect a desire to win at any cost.

  18. BB, bottom line, does NOT represent the people in his district. Who noticed who was sitting just to Bush’s left as he signed the tax break extension for the very rich? With red ink everywhere, isn’t some fiscal responsibility in order? There was BB beaming because those who share in his economic status just got richer at the expense of his constituents.

He’s a rubber stamp for the worst president in history!

He deserves to be held accountable! He doesn’t deserve to be a representative of the people in any public office, much less the governorship of Colorado.

  19. Wow, wait until I tell my family … I’m considered “rich”!

    ROFL

Keep repeating that ‘tax cut for the rich’ business.  Not everyone believes it yet.  Maybe in another 7 or 8 years, but keep trying.

  20. Remarkable,

This tax cut will cost us over $70 billion in 5 years, and much more over the next 10 if it’s passed as is.  With the Iraq occupation and all this wall-building and ATV-driving, I don’t think we have that money to spare.

But it certainly favors Bush’s Pioneers and Rangers over you and me.  The numbers describe a giveaway to the rich.

  21. Ya, Where the hell are those tax returns??? We want to know.  In addition, I want those medicaal records from Bob Beauprez, and how about some grade transcripts?

  22. Don’t worry about it Mr. Handy.  Your boy Holtzy will be eating ALPO under a bridge in a few days and you can stop bashing Beauprez and start bashing Ritter.

  23. “This tax cut will cost us over $70 billion in 5 years…”

Cost us?  Who is us?  The government and its burdensome bureaucracies?  Getting to keep more of our hard earned dollars is a good thing, whether you earn a little or a lot. Those tax savings go back into the economy, create jobs, are invested, saved, and spent.  These are good things.

  24. No sense trying to point out those trivial little details, Lauren B.  ;^)

It’ll be lost on the “Tax Us ‘Til We Bleed” crowd.
