  1. Whenever Trump rage-tweets about Mueller, you know that some shit hit the fan somewhere.

The big question: Why would Mueller continue to talk with Manafort KNOWING that Trump's lawyers were coordinating with Manafort?

The answer: 3 dimensional chess. Trump thought Manafort was a mole into Mueller's investigation. Instead, it was the reverse. Mueller was feeding mis-directions to Trump. Wait for Trump's to finish his open-book test, cribbing from Manafort, before slamming the hammer down.

    See Marcy Wheeler:

Marcy WheelerMueller Just Guaranteed He Can Issue a Public Report: "Mueller’s team appears to have no doubt that Manafort was lying to them…. Giving Manafort the impression that he was pulling a fast one over the prosecutors… while reporting… to Trump … increases the likelihood that Trump just submitted sworn answers… full of lies…. That 'detailed sentencing submission'… Mueller mentions?… There’s your Mueller report, which will be provided in a form that Matt Whitaker won’t be able to suppress…

      1. Mueller is an experienced prosecutor, whereas Trump's team consists of Law School graduates. It's like  NBA professionals playing against  a high-school pick-up team.

Just finished this article. Here is a clearer explanation of Mueller's Three Dimensional Chess. (From Mark Sumner):

Here’s how that might have gone:

        1. Manafort agrees to a plea deal, promising to tell all. However, what Manafort tells doesn’t just stop short of “all,” it includes deliberate lies and omissions.

        2. In addition to giving Mueller a sanitized version of events, Manafort reports back to Trump on what the investigation is asking him, providing invaluable prep as Trump determines his own actions.

        3. At the same time, Donald Trump is preparing to answer a set of written questions from Robert Mueller’s team. He delays and delays on providing these answers because … because he’s waiting for his inside man to reassure him that the special counsel has swallowed the “official” version of what happened hook, line, and sinker.

        4. Reassured by Manafort that he has sold Mueller’s team on a carefully edited version of the “truth,” Trump turns in his homework.

        5. And it’s only after Mueller has Trump’s answers in hand that he marches Manafort back into court and reveals that he knew the campaign manager was lying all along. Now Mueller doesn’t just have Manafort on record lying, he has written proof that Manafort and Trump were conspiring again to deceive and misdirect the investigation.

  2. Lorena Garcia has bagged to coveted "First" bragging rights by announcing she is going to run against Cory Gardner in 2020. Much like commenting "First" on blog article by being first out of the gate she will receive a very small amount of attention which is probably her goal since she is a "D List" politician at best, but it does mean that she gets a friendly profile in the online version of Westword.

      1. I can imagine her actually getting the Democratic nomination, but my scenario involves drop outs due to health, unexpectedly high levels of organizing skills, and a viral campaign video Hail Mary.

Exactly no one is going to look at her and say, “Oh well I can’t get in now. She is just too formidable an opponent.” Well, except maybe a few other D-Listers who are now kicking themselves for not getting their own cause some of that sweet Westword attention.

        1. She would be the left's version of Daryl Glenn. That is how she would win. Mike Miles was a more credible candidate the first time he ever ran.

  3. Inside the psychology of Trump's hangers-on:

But Trump is unique as a magnet for grifters, climbers and self-promoters, in part because decent people won’t associate with him. With the exception of national security professionals sticking around to stop Trump from blowing up the world, there are two kinds of people in the president’s orbit — the immoral and the amoral. There are sincere nativists, like Bannon and senior adviser Stephen Miller, and people of almost incomprehensible insincerity.

In many ways, the insincere Trumpists are the most frustrating. Because they don’t really believe in Trump’s belligerent nationalism and racist conspiracy theories, we keep expecting them to feel shame or remorse. But they’re not insincere because they believe in something better than Trumpism. Rather, they believe in very little. They are transactional in a way that makes no psychological sense to those of us who see politics as a moral drama; they might as well all be wearing jackets saying, “I really don’t care, do u?”

Senator Lindsey Graham, another insincere Trumpist, once justified his sycophantic relationship with the president by saying, “If you knew anything about me, I want to be relevant.” Some people would rather be on the wrong side than on the outside.
