  1. Little Johnny Third Way is ready to save the day!

‘He’s going to do it … He’s got a theory’

Gov. John Hickenlooper is methodically moving toward a 2020 presidential bid that would cut against the leftward grain of the Democratic Party’s base and draw on elements of John McCain’s 2000 campaign blueprint.

With the rollout of a new political action committee and ramped up campaign travel, the two-term Colorado governor is burnishing his national profile and attempting to develop a theory of the case for his candidacy, according to Democrats with whom he has spoken.

    1. Starting the buzz with the liberal primary base by stating you want to be like John McCain is a bold move, Cotton.

Hick's "Aw shucks, we should all get along" schtick may play here in Colorado most of the time, but in an election that will demand making a sharp contrast with Trump, it's not going to work.

        1. I actually think a low-key healer is the best candidate to contrast with Trump.  We could use a partisanship time-out, not that I'm optimistic that will happen.

Whether that is Hick or someone else is yet to be proven.

          1. If he ever admitted the truth about his supposed consumption of fracking fluid, severed his ties with the oil and gas industry, and promised to never, ever again tell the "Giddyup"  story…I might consider believing in him again. He is called "Frackenlooper" for a reason.

Just for the record, I do not believe any of those three things will happen.

    1. Good news — Hick's only 1 year, 7 months in to Medicare, born February 7, 1952. Almost 69 on the next Inauguration Day.

I keep seeing Hickenlooper as a historical "rhyme" of Mo Udall. Clearly not a repeat, as Udall's politics were seriously more liberal than Hickenlooper's. Tall, humorous, a good Westerner — I can envision Hickenlooper doing enough to be considered a serious "also ran" Presidential candidate. But like Udall running in 1976, Hickenlooper appears to be out of step with the national party's political mood, and probably out of step with those who think it will take someone with national political experience to clean up the Trump Sad!-ministration's missteps.

  2. Just curious, how many Pols are proud of the Democrat smear effort to keep Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court? Do you think this is playing well with Independents/unaffiliated?

    1. I am proud that there are some people who are trying to get the truth out.

Let all three of these women testify under oath. Subpoena the third party witnesses, including Mark Judge. And of course, let Kavanaugh be heard on his denials.

Sweeping this under the carpet – which is what Grassley is trying to do – is only going to make this fester. And if he is confirmed, when the Dems take the House in January, the Judiciary Committee will hold a thorough and proper investigation which may exonerate him or lead to his impeachment.

    2. Then you should call Sen. Gardner's office and demand that the Senate reopen the FBI background investigation.  All these lying women will be forced to tell their stories to agents and any lies they tell can be prosecuted under 18 U.S.C. § 1001, which punishes false statements to FBI agents with up to 5 years in jail (see, recently, Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos)

      That will show the wrongdoers!

      1. Thus far, the statements have been developed and cautious, and if the FBI looked at them, my guess is any consistent statements made during an FBI interview would leave little ground for a charge of perjury.

The same cannot be said by Mike Judge, PJ Smythe, or a number of others who signed letters early on.

Gardner's office already has MANY calls and written correspondence suggesting a re-opened FBI investigation, centered on these claims.  The office hasn't responded to mine (even with the usual topical boilerplate).  And of course, there has been no statement even as mild as Sen. Murkowski's about an FBI investigation answering many questions.

    3. Pear — yes it is.  Just as the GOP Congress stuffing a "middle class" tax cut down their throats with no hearings and little input other than from the constituency for which it was intended (corporations and the uber-wealthy), Independents and unaffiliated voters don't see why jamming this confirmation proceeding down their throats with minimal, if any vetting, given the life-time appointment, should go unquestioned.

The GOP’s hypocrisy in abusing its power is unprecedented.

    1. Murkowski has political reasons to oppose Kavanaugh, outside of any sense of sisterhood with his accusers.  She's probably the right pressure point for Dems.  Of course, they'll have to hold onto their own, several of whom voted for Gorsuch.

      1. We'll see which way the tide is flowing when Friday's vote comes up…  The senators are pretty testy right now

“Everybody shut up. I’m not in a good mood.”That was how the morning began on Capitol Hill, with Senator Orrin Hatch, the second-most-senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, losing it just a little bit.

      2. The RWNJs have made life miserable for Murkowski in the past but she prevailed.  She lost the Republican primary to one Joe Miller who was a Tea Party friend of Sarah and Todd Palin. Murkowski then ran a write-in campaign – with a name that is not easy to spell – and won. She is in a position to tell the wing nuts to screw themselves.

As for the Dems who voted for Gorsuch, that could conceivably give them a pass on voting against Kavanaugh. Manchin, Heitkamp and Donnelly can credibly say that they are open to confirming Trump's right wing nominees assuming they are academically/professionally qualified and relatively-scandal free.

  3. Also…sir, may I have another?

Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner receives anonymous letter detailing fourth Brett Kavanaugh accusation

The mother of a woman who says she witnessed sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in Washington, D.C., in 1998 sent a detailed — but anonymous — letter about the incident to Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner.

“Her friend was dating him, and they left the bar under the influence of alcohol. They were all shocked when Brett Kavanaugh shoved her friend up against the wall very aggressively and sexually,” according to a transcript released Wednesday by the Senate Judiciary Committee of a phone interview of Kavanaugh by committee staffers. “There were at least four witnesses, including my daughter.”
