Senator Dodd announced last night he is not running for the D nomination for re-election as a Senator from CT. This seat was a possible R pick up before- not now.
Blumenthal is as popular as any Democrat in Connecticut right now, with sky-high name recognition and a decades-long rep as a corruption fighter. The NRSC and the state party had been pulling their punches for weeks in hopes that Dodd would retain enough of a pulse to stay, wounded and ripe, in the race. That’s over. While Dodd and GOP Gov. Jodi Rell tanked over the summer with below-40 percent approval ratings, Blumenthal happy number was hovering around 80 (!) percent.

this is now a R slam dunk.
I’m not sure.
Pomeroy has already won statewide and is or at least was well liked. I don’t know Hoeven, but if he’s only willing to now commit that Dorgan is out, he doesn’t seem that strong.
But CT stays D.
ANd LIeberman can rest easy that Blumenthal won’t be running in 12.
Dodd was endangered and that’s putting it nicely. With him out and Blumenthal in, I think Dems hold this one.
I’m bummed about Byron Dorgan–a good man and a good Democrat and about the only guy who could have beat back Republican Governor’s Hoeven’s challenge. This is a blow for the Dems. (And rumor has it that Ed Schultz is considering running but I’d bet money he won’t.)
ANd if runs it only hurts the D nominee.
They are floating Representative Pomeroy’s name but Hoeven is favored to beat everybody. And then we risk a House seat if Pomeroy runs.
I’m no fan of Schultz but at this point I wouldn’t mind if he took one for the team and offered himself up as a sacrifice. I’d rather lose a Senate seat than a Senate seat and a House seat.
Run Ed Schultz in ND.
We aren’t going to hold the seat no matter who runs so I’d rather sacrifice his big mouthed ass than I would a good House Rep.
It would get him off radio and TV for a year or so.
What’s not to love?
Is those mortgages he got – which normally would matter very little. But the bank bail-out is second only to jobs in this upcoming election – and the electorate wants to punish people for it.
What made this so bad is the bonuses. If they had suffered with us, and we had to bail them out, but they were still hurting bad and eliminated bonuses, then we would have had shared suffering.
But with the way it played out – anyone who’s considered a friend (or even acquaintance) of the banks is in deep doo-doo.
