Who Will Be Colorado's Next Governor? (Round 3)

  • by: Colorado Pols
Jared Polis (left) and Walker Stapleton

Normally we would post this poll on Monday, but the Labor Day weekend means that we’re moving our regular query one day later. Otherwise, the rules of this game are simple: Tell us who you THINK is going to win the race for Governor.

Remember, we’re looking for your best educated guess on the outcome of this race, not who you support or who you would prefer to see emerge victorious. The point of this exercise is to track how perceptions of the race are (or are not) changing as Election Day nears. For previous results, click Round 1 or Round 2.

Who gets to move into the Governor’s Mansion in January? Will it be Democrat Jared Polis or Republican Walker Stapleton?

Who Will Be the Next Governor of Colorado?

  1. Right now it seems like Polis is following the traditional war advice: "Never interfere with the enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself."

His apparent likelihood of winning does not have much to do with establishing a positive position as it does with Stapleton fumbling in a bad national position.

  2. Guessing Polis will win but not by as much as some assume. Don't think there is much enthusiasm for either candidate.

The large number of tax issues on the ballot may motivate more conservative voters than there might otherwise be. And there probably will be as Thompson Effect at play when it comes to a gay man on the ballot. Would like to think we are past that but betting we aren't.

  3. Jared will be a great governor for all of Colorado, its culture and its values.  We 51st-staters have a long, rich history of voting against our best interests; we can’t seem to stop perpetuating an agenda that makes us, for most practical purposes, irrelevant. I’m heartened by a few folks out yonder that have turned the corner and will be voting for a real leader, one with the vision to partner with us to build a 21st-century economy with new crops, new clean energy opportunities, innovation.  It’s way past time to stop looking back, we’re not headed that way.

    1. Yep, not just 51st-staters but all of rural Colorado needs to recognize that their wants and needs are specific, and distinctly different from those of the Front Rangers. Rural Colorado (and its representative groups such as Club 20, Action 22, Progressive 15) needs to reach for higher goals. It's not enough to be the company towns of oil and gas, or for community members to survive on not much more than low-paying jobs and safety net programs. Speak up, rural Colorado, and demand more from your next Governor, and elect strong legislators who will truly support your interests, not just those of corporate interests.
