  1. Ever since President Donald Trump discovered that he could unilaterally pardon individuals, aides say he’s been thrilled by that level of unchecked power.

So if you're already absolutely corrupt, what do you do with absolute power?  One guess — ensure your own destruction.

“Certainly, the president has the authority to pardon Manafort, but I think it would be a major mistake,” said Ed Rollins, a longtime Republican operative who also ran the pro-Trump group, Great America PAC. “If a pardon comes pre the mid-terms, it will become a major issue in the campaigns. Equally important, if a pardon comes at the completion of the criminal process, it will taint the president’s legacy, and certainly make a farce out of his promises to ‘Drain the swamp!’”

  2. Denver dodged a bullet recently, and The Denver Post didn't even notice.

For a few days this year, it looked like northeast Denver might see some of the first oil and gas drilling sites in the city’s recent history.

A state board was considering a proposal to lease out land for potential drilling near the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, including around Stapleton and Green Valley Ranch.

Fortunately, Denverite.com had a reporter following the story.  Turns out that if oil approaches $100/barrel again, then Stapleton businesses and homeowners better get their torches and pitchforks ready to do battle with the Oily Boys.

    1. Well, if it's any comfort, the Arsenal only made chemical weapons — mustard gas, napalm, sarin gas, etc.

You're thinking of Rocky Flats a little bit to the west in Arvada, where they manufactured plutonium triggers for hydrogen bombs.  They only want to allow kids to wander around on those former superfund grounds.

    2. Davie's right, Gertie, no nukes, just all kinds of toxic chemicals that were pumped into deep wells. Slant-drilling the site would pose a pretty high risk of crossing paths with some of those disposal wells and possibly releasing what was originally pumped into them.

RMA is how we knew frackquakes were a thing when the O&G people were swearing up and down that they weren't

Denverite’s good stuff. It’s in my emailbox every morning and worth the five minutes it takes to skim it. https://denverite.com/

      1. Any chance we can use Moderatus as the canary in the toxic chemical drilling site? He is all for drilling and pumping. (And I don't mean "pumping" as in what leads the depletion of his box of Kleenexes.)

    3. There is no drilling plan that, for sheer stupidity, outdoes the " Rulison Nuclear Blast Zone" plan, in which the COGCC allowed a company from Texas to drill ever closer to the derelict, radioactive, underground chamber left by the atomic bomb that was detonated underground, just outside Parachute, CO in 1969.

After flaring off some 800 million cubic feet of radioactive natural gas, they gave up and closed it in, only to allow drilling there years later…even to the point of moving inside the exclusion zones established by the DOE.

The people who profit, don't live there.

  3. Ya think?!?!?

Former Fox analyst Ralph Peters: Fox viewers have 'utterly skewed view of reality'

"Fox isn't immoral, it's amoral," he said. Later in the interview, when Reliable Sources aired clips that show Fox News hosts defending Trump's decision to strip former CIA director John Brennan's security clearance, Peters was asked if he thought his colleagues at Fox are "proud of their performance."

"The polite word is 'prostitutes,' so I'll just leave it at that," Peters fired back.

    1. Negev should be weighing in any minute now about how if everyone at the bar/tournament had been carrying concealed, it would have been so much safer.

We libtards just don't understand the necessities of a well-armed (and profitable for gun industry) society.

If Republicans keep the Senate, we're headed for a society in which every public venue will require a full body scan and background check prior to entry. I wonder if that will fit the gunhead's vision of the full exercise of the 2nd amendment.
