(Tancredo hearts Stapleton, tell your friends – Promoted by Colorado Pols)
If you’ve been following Colorado’s governor’s race, you know that former Congressman Tom Tancredo gave Republican Walker Stapleton his full-throated endorsement during the GOP primary, embellishing Stapleton with Tancredo’s ultra-conservative imprimatur and delivering primary voters to Stapleton, who’s connections to the Bush Dynasty were viewed with skepticism by Tea Party types.
In the past few months, after Stapleton became the Republican nominee for governor, political observers have been asking whether Stapleton will try to distance himself from Tancredo, who wants to expunge our country of all undocumented immigrants and suggested we bomb Mecca, among other things.
Well, Stapleton’s embrace of Tancredo isn’t loosening.
Tancredo is a “special guest” at a Sept. 1 fundraiser, where the former Congressman and Stapleton will be raising funds “to help Colorado WIN in November.”
To be fair, the speculation that Stapleton would reverse course and dump Tancredo isn’t consistent with how Stapleton has been running his campaign so far.
Stapleton embraced Trump, for example, during the primary, and he’s sticking with the unpopular president, even going so far as to invite Trump to Colorado to campaign with him.
If Stapleton isn’t running away from Trump, you wouldn’t think he’d run away from you, I told Tancredo.
“Right,” Tanc replied. “It would be interesting to know who’s hated more in Colorado. Me or Trump.”
“Trump,” I replied. “Hands down.”
“That’s very good to know, that someone is hated more than me,” said Tanredo.
Asked if Tancredo was surprised that Stapleton would appear with him, the former congressman paused and said, “Well, frankly, I don’t think you can escape the fact that I supported him and he supported the issue care about. That’s never going to go away.”
Stapleton Campaign Manager Michael Fortney did not return an email seeking comment.
Tancredo doesn’t think Stapleton will back off the hard-line immigration position, trumpeted in a political advertisement a few months ago, and a campaign group Stapleton backed is attacking Democrat Jared Polis on the issue.
“One of the reasons I pushed as hard as I did during the primary is to make sure it would be hard [for Stapleton to soften his immigration stance,]” said Tancredo, adding that he doesn’t know what the Stapleton campaign’s strategy on the issue. “I don’t want a fair weather friend on immigration.”
In fact, the upcoming fundraiser promises to spotlight Tancredo’s stance on immigration, with the invitation asking:
“Do you want safe, not sanctuary cities? Better roads and shorter commutes? Low, not soaring energy bills? FREE FOOD? Then come meet Colorado’s next Governor, Walker Stapleton, and Lt. Governor, Lang Sias at a fun community potluck!.. [and] Bring your checkbook…”

TanKKK and WalKKKer! What could go wrong?
However one feels about the discussion of how Stapleton feels about his Great-Grandfather's Klan affiliation as an issue, embracing Tancredo does not alleviate the concerns anybody has about that.
And thank you Ms. Overbeck for sharing that flier.
Tracing the breadcrumbs, the host(ess) of this little shindig seems to be a profile in batshit craziness (praising the latest piece from Reich Minister of Propoganda and convicted felon Dinesh D'Goebbels on her twitter). I'd say Stapleton should be ashamed to be associated with these clowns, but we all know his nose is as big and red as the rest of 'em.
From too much drinking? 😛
FREE FOOD? Won’t that just encourage a culture of dependency? Will Masterpiece be baking the cake?
Shorter commutes? How exactly is Staplegun going to do that? Make the roads shorter? Drive all the snowflakes off the Front Range? Free toll passes for everyone with an SS bumper sticker?
I read, "free food" then I see, "potluck". The latter usually means everyone is expected to contribute a dish. I wonder which it is.
Exactly what kind of name is Dinesh? That does not sound very American.
"Dinesh" is ancient Greek for "Trump stinks!"
Seriously?
Geronimo is an American name.
Virtually everyone else has an immigrant name.
A potluck supper on a Sunday afternoon during Labor Day.
Wonder if anyone is going to be looking for food safety violations?
And checking the location on Google Maps, I noticed the directions conclude "Destination will be on the right" and it appears to be very near the end of the road.
Clearly I have been working under the misunderstanding that Stapleton wanted to win this election
Who’d have thunk? The tired, old low, not soaring energy prices canard still plays with this crowd, like an old Pat Boone song? Has Ms. Overbeck checked the futures on Henry Hub lately? Sub-$3 gas as far out as 2020.
You need to step out of your Denver/Boulder progressive bubble. Perhaps the RED WAVE election will convince you to stop ignoring real Americans.
Hey MAGAt anus, can you tell us what a real American is? What separates a real American from not real Americans?
Why do you assume that everyone posting here lives in a "Denver/Boulder bubble" and that everyone is a "progressive?"
Did you address that to me or our resident doofus?
Moderatus,
The only RED WAVE I'm expecting this fall will be in Lincoln, NE, in the safe confines of Memorial Stadium, nicknamed The Sea of Red.
Can you entertain us with whatever signs you see of a RED WAVE in the general election?
