A Colorado Springs man was arrested Monday after deliberately striking a bicyclist with his Dodge van, police said.

Timothy Hombs was driving his Dodge Caravan around 2:15 p.m. near Palmer Park Boulevard and Wooten Road when he spotted an “unknown party” riding on what he thought his son’s stolen bike,” according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

Hombs “intentionally” struck the bicyclist with his van to stop it, got out of his vehicle and approached the person he believed to be a bike thief.

The bike, however, wasn’t his son’s, the blotter said.

No word yet if Hombs is related to Doug Bruce.

Private carry permits.

Not sure it would fit the a “make my day” scenario, and I am not a lawyer, but it would seem to be a reasonable self defense.

  …just for the asshats on the 20th street bridge over I-25. They seem to think running over cyclists IN THE BIKE PATH is not only legal but fun.
  
  I wonder where Sen Brophy is on all this – the decriminalization of assault or murder of cyclists. Considering what a cycling and pro-gun nut he is, he just might run with your idea…

  A motor vehicle can be considered a “lethal weapon”. I doubt that a jury hearing such a case would rule differently.
