Over the weekend, Colorado GOP Vice Chair Derrick Wilburn Facebooked the photo below from the MLK marade. Willburn, who was elected by to his Republican Party post last year, is the founder of American Conservatives of Color, whose slogan is “Truth Transcends Color.”
Wilburn: A few minutes ago waiting for the MLK March to begin. How many times have you seen two banners like this in the same place at the same time? This is what MLK would have wanted, standing side by side.

Republicans often get this wrong, only because there is a propaganda machine dedicated to getting it wrong. The myth is that Martin Luther King, JR, (the one we usually think of as MLK, the civil rights leader) was a Republican.
That was his father, the Reverend Doctor King , Senior. MLK Senior was a registered Republican, because at that time Democrats in the South wouldn't register black voters. Even he voted and campaigned for Democratic JFK for President in 1960. Said his grandson, MLK III:
