Get More Smarter on Tuesday (March 31)

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

March is going “out like a lamb” in Colorado, but April is waiting to kick our ass. It’s time to Get More Smarter with Colorado Pols. If you think we missed something important, please include the link in the comments below (here’s a good example).

TOP OF MIND TODAY…

► State Rep. Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt is the gift that keeps on giving…if you like really, really ridiculous gifts. Somehow former Congressman Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin even merits a mention. Is a recall in the works?

► The State House approved legislation (HB-1300) to allow local governments to increase the minimum wage from Colorado’s current level of $8.23 per hour. A separate proposal, HCR-1001, would have placed a minimum wage increase on the 2015 ballot, but failed to receive the necessary two-thirds majority needed for ballot measures.

SHOULD YOU FIND YOURSELF STANDING NEAR A WATER COOLER…

► Senate President Bill Cadman is blaming the ‘libruls for failing to pass legislation in prior years that would allow a fetus to be treated as a person in criminal cases. Cadman fails to mention, of course, that Republicans actually rejected such legislation at the request of Personhood lobbyists.

► Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is blaming the media over legislation he signed that would make it easier for businesses in the state to discriminate based on religious beliefs. Maybe he should have, you know, read the bill first. Aurora Sentinel editor Dave Perry has a few words for Pence and his cohorts.

Aurora City Manager Skip Noe will apparently keep his job after a closed-door meeting on Monday with the Aurora City Council.

Governor John Hickenlooper signed his name to legislation that will regulate powdered alcohol, or “palcohol,” in the same way that liquid spirits are handled in Colorado.

OTHER LINKS YOU SHOULD CLICK

► Is Sen. Cory Gardner acting like the “new kind of Republican” that he pledged he would be during his 2014 campaign? You know the answer to that.

► The ghost of Eli Stokols reports on legislation to provide in-state tuition to Colorado veterans.

► New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez may be indicted on Wednesday.

ICYMI

Polling results show that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a comfortable lead over Jesus “Chuy” Garcia in advance of next week’s runoff election.

President Obama missed a step and almost fell while exiting Air Force One yesterday. This apparently warrants a story from CNN.
