Vaily Daily Editorial Board Endorses Fitz-Gerald

  •
  • by: Matt Moseley

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

From The Vail Daily:

Eagle County has been well represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Mark Udall over the past 10 years. Now it’s time to pass that torch, and our pick is Joan Fitz-Gerald for the Democratic primary in the Second Congressional District.

… Fitz-Gerald comes out with the edge because she has these issues on her agenda as well – and she has a lot of experience behind her to help her hit the ground running.

As the clerk and recorder for Jefferson County for many years, Fitz-Gerald has hands-on experience managing people and budgets. Her seven years in the Colorado State Senate – including a historic stint at senate president – were marked by strong advocacy for and knowledge of issues of concern to mountain residents. An ardent environmentalist, Fitz-Gerald appears eager to join others in Congress to fight for our lands, a new energy policy based on renewable and sustainable practices and has also promised to continue the battle to address our state’s pine beetle problem.

We also like Fitz-Gerald’s stances on the Iraq war (let’s get out soon), health care (a single-payer system, soon), and education (time to dunk No Child Left Behind). She is also extremely well-versed on the issue of I-70 congestion and recognizes the drain it has on mountain economies.
