Guess Who's Coming To The GOP Senate Debate?

We haven't seen much publicity for this, but the next Denver Post GOP primary debate is coming up next Tuesday evening, featuring the large field of candidates vying for the chance to take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Udall in November. The bar for participating in this primary debate appears pretty low, with minor candidates like Mark Aspiri and Floyd Trujillo–"Who?" you rightly ask–as well as Jaime McMillan, a vanity candidate from California who we understand withdrew this week from the race. Randy Baumgardner, who raised a whopping three grand in the last fundraising quarter, reportedly hasn't confirmed he is attending. But one name in particular struck us in the Post's long list of "Senate candidates" appearing Tuesday:

We first became acquainted with with perennial Adams County GOP candidate Tom Janich during the 2010 campaign by Republicans, ultimately successful by a single seat, to recapture the Colorado House. Janich was the GOP candidate in the House District 31 race running against incumbent Democrat Judy Solano. Although the race between Solano and Janich was itself fairly close, the exposure of Janich's lengthy criminal record, including guilty plea for assaulting two Brighton police officers, became part of a damaging "crooks and criminals" counterattack from Democrats that helped limit Republican state house gains in a "GOP wave year" election.

We haven't seen any evidence that Mr. Janich has actually filed with the Federal Election Commission as a candidate in the 2014 U.S. Senate race, so maybe it's not too late to join this debate yourself! That said, Janich does has a rudimentary Senate campaign website up, introducing himself extravagantly:

My fellow Americans, I implore you to take a strong look at the coming fiscal bubble, the mother of all financial bubbles. Think of me as a modern day Paul Revere… [Pols emphasis]

Just don't piss him off, folks. We can't wait to hear what he has to say Tuesday night.
