A fundraising email sent out by Republican gubernatorial candidate Hiedi Heidi Ganahl yesterday is being rewarded with some attention, unfortunately not the good kind:

As you can see, Ganahl is hoping to tap into the buzz over the hire of Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson by the Denver Broncos. Nothing about this empty appeal needs to make sense, which is good because nothing about it makes any sense whatsoever. Here’s the name of a cool football player, now give Heidi Ganahl money? They could have just as well sent a fundraising email about the weather asking to buy Heidi Ganahl a raincoat.
But since Ganahl has gone ahead and invoked the name of the Broncos’ new star quarterback, gushing about how Wilson is “tough, a winner, and always clutch” just like Heidi herself, let’s ask the next logical question: do you suppose the feeling is mutual?
Wilson hasn’t been in town long enough to comment on the Colorado governor’s race, but there is some evidence that Wilson might not approve of a hard-right Republican gubernatorial candidate dropping his name in a fundraising pitch:

This is why it’s generally a good idea to ask famous people first if you’d like to use their name! We don’t know how much umbrage Wilson will take with this, but he’s certainly entitled to some if he wants.
And depending on how politically active the Broncos’ new QB wants to be (here’s looking at you, John Elway), Wilson could make some big and lasting waves.
