“I think that America will not trust a party to defend America that isn’t willing to defend itself.”

Today is Day of the Employees of the Diplomatic Service (Azerbaijan)
Carville's quote is still relevant. If one party is willing to allow the other to steal an election (2000) and a SCOTUS pick from it, without so much as a whimper, while also building a stacked electoral system to systematically deny their votes – without much more than whining from the Dems. People will stop trusting and fighting for that party.
A problem with Carville's diagnosis is he apparently thinks a party needs to defend itself from BOTH outside attacks AND from internal dissension — especially dissension that disagrees with his preferred view of what the party ought to be. As he said in an interview during the 2020 campaign
Anyway what does Carville know?
He's just the guy who engineered the repositioning of the Democratic Party in 1992 away from the McGovern-Mondale formula for "success" that worked so well in the '70's and '80's.
Well, at least we now have a former cop who has seen the racism of the NYPD up close now on track to become the next mayor of New York City. Maybe he will give the Dems some protection against the "Defund the Police" movement.
Oh for sure Carville is smack dab in the middle of the Clinton/DLC veering right.
Nevertheless, the analysis surely applies to the Dems now. It is not clear what they'd actually fight – fight – for.
Yeah.
Winning has nothing to do with anything. He was talking about a winning formula. He was right, but winning is irrelevant.
What with the Supreme Court, control of the battleground states, and dominating the Senate, I am getting tired of all this winning.
It's true. Look what has happened to Republicans like Michael Steele, Steve Schmidt, etc. They are all but Dems now.
I just bumped into this. It helps explain WTF has happened to the Republican Party. And it is all about the grift: https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2021/07/07/sean-turnbull-sgtreport-social-media/
The guy's a drug dealer. Except instead of heroin, his clients are addicted to angry crazy shit. The good news for him is that instead of getting sick and dying or going to jail, his clients just want more and more and more.
Tomorrow is National Kitten Day
.
Here at the headwaters of the Republican River everyone is a buzz over the army of Biden Brown Shirts headed our way to force vaccinations upon the unwilling.
I’m old enough to remember when they lined us up in the school hallway and the
brown shirtscounty nurse administered our MMR shot sans mass protest. How times have changed.
Everybody knows measles is real and not a commie plot.
Hospital ICUs are filling up with COVID deniers and anti-vaxxers. I feel compassion for their professional caretakers….but very little for the sick themselves, since they deliberately chose to live in Trumpworld and believe propaganda.
Fauci: 99 percent of Americans who died of COVID-19 last month were unvaccinated
Any you know that many of them will scream that this is conclusive evidence that the disease was engineered by the Chinese in collaboration with George Soros and the people who killed Seth Rich to target unvaccinated MAGAts.
Where they go one, they go all. Like lemmings.
Original thought is not usually welcomed in the former Grand Old Party.
Dogma will do fine, thank you.
Looks like they are still hosing out the elephant poop in D.C.
Your "elephant poop" link is behind the Washington Post pay wall.
Sometimes ya gotta pay for the news. With free news, ya get what ya pay for.
OK, off my soap box 🙂
Yep, I pay for the Denver Post and until early this year, paid for a couple non-free parts of the New York Times.
Yahoo News is my default news site. Sadly, there is only so much time in the day for reading all the interesting stuff on line. Then I have to factor in some weekly & bimonthly print subscriptions……….
NYT, WaPo, TPM. Next would be the Colorado Sun. It is about funding good journalism, as much as my own interest. Since NYT & WaPo are well-funded, they'd be the first I would drop (frickin' both-siderism tendencies) but I do find really good articles amidst the compromises.
NYT is worth it for the photography, alone.
The Wa-Po comes gratis with my Denver Post subscription (It makes sense as they crib so much from them). I picked up the NYT to read all the links from it that get dropped here. I also pay for the Sun. Some of the best writers from the Post and the RMN migrated there.
