To hardcore Maes and Tancredo supporters… YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!

(Don’t listen to Bob, keep fighting 🙂 – promoted by DavidThi808)

Chances are by the time you have read this it will be 9/12. Glen Beck created the 9/12 project under the idea “to bring us all back to the place we were on Sept. 12, 2001 … we were not obsessed with red states, blue states or political parties. We were united as Americans, standing together to protect the values and principles of the greatest nation ever created.” I’m pretty sure some of people who are reading this are going to say “No! Glen Beck created the 9/12 project for EVIL!!!!” and honestly this blog isn’t about whether or whether not the 9/12 project is good, bad or a group full of bigots.

Let’s reread that statement one more time. Did you read it? Of course you did because you follow every command that you read :P.  But seriously that statement will have a large impact on what is said in the rest of this blog.

I’ve notice a lot of really nasty comments from both the extreme supporters of both the Maes and Tancredo camp. I’ve heard everything from a prominent Tancredo supporter calling Maes supporters “Maes Zombies,” to a Maes county chair asking ‘Why does Tancredo hate the Liberty movement?” Really? REALLY? Do these words sound like words from someone not obsessed with political parties? I think everyone here is forgetting regardless whoever wins the Governor’s race, chances are both groups are going to work together again whether it’s on ballot initiatives or other campaigns. Both sides should be looking at this whole thing from the other’s point of view.

Tancredo Supporters: Can you really blame Maes supporters for staying with Maes? Some of them have been with him since February of 2009. They where only given no other choice. In their eyes, it looks like Tancredo decided not to take the effort Maes did to win the nomination, and then cock block Maes. These are the same voters that settled on oh so many GOP candidates, and now they have been told their candidate is not good enough. To add insult to injury a good majority of the people who were telling Maes to drop out, where the same ones who ignored him at the beginning. So looking it from that perspective, you can’t really blame them.

Maes Supporters: Can you really blame Tancredo supporters for going to Tancredo? Unfortunately McInnis’s actions stole a clean win from Maes. He beat a guy with a glaring scandal that was handled horribly. The only clean victory he has had was the Assembly and if 9 people switched their vote, things would have been different. In the last couple of weeks, Dan hasn’t handled any of his mini scandals very well, so you can see why people would be willing to move to Tancredo.

There are certain leaders that are going to publicly support a candidate that isn’t Maes. Some county bylaws state that not supporting the Republican nominee is cause for removal from a leadership position. Please don’t go that route. By getting anyone not supporting Maes kicked out of leadership, you cause them more stress and publicly humiliate them. That is a great short term move. In the long term this is going to bite you in the know where (isn’t it funny that I’m willing to say cock block in my blog but not that word?) These are the same people that you’re going to need on your side sooner then you may think. For example in 2011 Colorado Springs will be having an election for City Council and Mayor. Having the conservative movement fractured will make it easier to have a more progressive mayor.

Hickenlooper supporters: Y’all buying me a drink on November 2nd, I’m going to need it. 😛

So honestly Maes and Tancredo supporters should start focusing on why their candidate is awesome, not why they suck less than the other guy. It will make healing the divide that much easier after November.
