Wal-Mart Special: Chicago

  •
  • by: CoalCreekWildfire

Wal-Mart 1, Unions 0:

• Chicago Mayor Daley wins a Wal-Mart sponsored environmental award

• Wal-Mart wins approval for its 1st store in a core Democratic constituency

Daley is one of two mayors to win the award:

Chicago, IL Mayor Richard M. Daley … [has] been selected to receive the 2010 Mayors’ Climate Protection Award, a program sponsored by … Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

A few weeks later, Daley successfully overcomes Union opposition to the Wal-Mart expansion:

Approval for the store came after labor leaders dropped their opposition… Daley, who has blasted critics of Wal-Mart’s expansion in the city …

This is Chicago’s first Wal-Mart store in a core Democratic constituency. The other store is in the whiter and more conservative west side.

What is Daley thinking?
