Ali Hasan Wants To Be The Next [Expletive] State Treasurer

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

Sensing weakness in the two present GOP candidates for Colorado treasurer, Walker “Bush” Stapleton and J.J.”You Know My Daddy” Ament, one of the more colorful figures in Colorado politics, and a proud occasional contributor to the Colorado Pols community, Ali Hasan has thrown his hat in the ring. The Vail Daily reports:

Ali Hasan, who ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives in 2008, will run for Colorado treasurer this year.

Hasan, a Beaver Creek Republican, is the third member of that party to announce a run for the office, now held by Democrat Cary Kennedy. The other declared candidates so far are J.J. Ament and Walter Stapleton. [sic–Pols]

In Hasan’s view, the other Republicans running for the office are “fiscal liberals.” Hasan said his opinion is that any Republican in the office should use that position to strengthen the provisions of the Colorado Taxpayer Bill of Rights, or TABOR, amendment to the state constitution.

Another part of fiscal conservatism, in Hasan’s view, is that the state shouldn’t invest its money with companies that have received, or requested, bailouts from the federal government.

We’ve dealt our snark to Mr. Hasan–also known as “The Master of the Terrible Press”–at times when he has deserved it, and he’s always gamely absorbed our (and others’) ribbing. We would be remiss if we failed to note other times we have grudgingly praised him. We’ll be evaluating Hasan’s odds for placement on the Big Line (feel free to weigh in)–he’s certainly got all the money he needs to shut down “the bank twins,” and, well, he makes any campaign fun to watch.
