Upping the Craze Ante, McInnis says he won’t participate in a Colorado GOP Sponsored candidate forum next month. The reason he doesn’t want to participate? Because they’re holding a straw poll. His strange, typo-laden letter follows:
EDITED: Continued after the Fold. [TaxCheat, I hope you don’t mind, but I broke it up-Twitty].
Dear Executive Committee/ Central Committee member:
Election Day 2010 is going to be a banner year for republicans thanks in large part to people like you! Over the next fourteen months, your dedication and commitment to GOP candidates will make the difference.
Sparked by the liberal policies of the current administration, republicans around the state have begun to generate the kind of excitement that has us poised for victory. Traveling around the state, I have witnessed first-hand the enthusiasm bubbling among grassroots republicans for restoring fiscal responsibility and creating a pro-jobs economic climate that will no doubt give us the edge on Election Day. Victory is within our grasp.
However, we have been in this position before. We must not allow this momentum and this rare opportunity to disappear. Experience tells us that candidate fights result in a divided Republican Party which translates into democratic victories. Clearly a message we’ve received from the party activists is that we want to win.
I encourage everyone on the 2010 ticket to focus on the big picture-beating democrats. We must stick to the issues and refrain from negative, harmful personal attacks. With that in mind, the focus of our campaign at this point will be to continue to meet and listen to the concerns of Coloradoans and gather the necessary resources to ensure victory.
It is my belief that a straw poll over a year out from the general election will result in a higher propensity for party infighting. Many do not see the value in a poll that has no science or accepted methodology and where the votes are sold as a fundraiser and one can vote many times based on the money they give. This straw poll provides discourse amongst ourselves, which is why the party has not done this with the state central committee in the past.
Certainly I believe in the election year, forums will play a critical role in assisting all republicans in their candidate selection, and I will heartily participate in a series of well-planned events at that time. I just believe that our recent party history indicates that we must do it in a timely fashion and in a manner that provides the least amount of opportunity for the democrats to gain ammunition. Our unified target needs to be defeating Ritter, not each other. Thank you once again for all of your efforts and the commitment you will invest over the next fourteen months. Lori and I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail.
Sincerely,
Scott McInnis
It seems rather ironic that a guy running around hyping a junk-science phone poll doesn’t want to participate in a Party sanctioned event because it’s not “scientific.”
Does anyone else find it odd that a candidate for Governor doesn’t want to show up at the State Central Committee meeting to speak to party leaders because the agenda includes a straw poll?
My guess is that he doesn’t want to show up to get a trouncing like he got at the Weld County Straw Poll last week.
This guy is friggin’ crazy.
