Protesters in midtown Manhattan in New York demonstrate against the National Security Agency's surveillance of Americans' telephone records on Sunday, August 4, 2013. The NSA has ended its warrantless broad surveillance program as required by law and will be replacing it with a more targeted program. (Photo by Richard Levine/Corbis via Getty Images)

The American Civil Liberties Union has uncovered memos that show the National Security Agency (NSA) and FBI “violated specific civil liberty protections during the Obama administration by improperly searching and disseminating raw intelligence on Americans or failing to promptly delete unauthorized intercepts,” as reported by The Hill on Tuesday.

    1. Aw, Gerbils!  The Joint Chiefs of Staff are no fun!  If Trump tweeted a declaration of war, they'd just ignore it.  Boo, Hoo!

There will be “no modifications” to the military’s transgender policy as a result of President Donald Trump’s declared ban on transgender men and women on Twitter, the chairman of the joint chiefs said in a message to top military officers on Thursday — the latest sign of the disarray following the commander in chief's abrupt announcement.

“The chairman of the joint chiefs is respecting the rule of law and the role of the secretary of defense, and he is protecting commanders in the field from having good order and discipline undermined,” Wolff said. “Gen. Dunford should never have been put in this position. It is a reflection of the crisis we now face with this increasingly unstable and reckless individual occupying the presidency.”

  2. I like today's quote.  Thanks Pols for enjoyable political quotes.  What a contrast between Patriotism and Nationalism.  The biblical story making the rounds recently is the King Salomon story of the two women contending for a child and Salomon offers to cut the baby in two and give each one half.  The real mother cares about the child and wants it to live so she tells the king that she will give up her claim as the child's mother.  The other women could care less about the child and says do it so she doesn't lose face by being the liar.  It seems like a good analogy between patriotism and nationalism.  Interesting quote to start the day.

  3. Humor in the in box … The White House email blast today has a subject line "Honoring American Heroes"

President Trump continues to devote this week to honoring past, present, and future American Heroes. From our rising leaders, to our most experienced veterans, it is important that we come together to recognize and celebrate those who put our great country and its values before themselves.

Given yesterday's Transgender Tweets, just have to ask:  How's that new Communication Director working out? Is the Mooch's takeover all you hoped it would be?
