    1. The right solution lies somewhere between two guys slapping together a stair case in a public park and a $65,000 set of stairs. For example, the staircase lacks footings, which are essential to stabilize a staircase built on dirt.

      Safety?

      Accessability?

      Longevity?

      1. Yes, as pretty as those steps are, they don't look at all structurally sound. About the time a 300-pounder runs up or down a few time, they'll fail.

As much as they're a PIA, building codes exist for a reason.

        1. Actually, they look like a lot of stiles constructed all over the U.K. IMHO, a sturdier design would have been the sort where the steps are cut into the hillside with weatherproofed wood laid over them as treads and kick-plates.

    1. God knows what they are praying for Dean Heller and Susan Collins to be diagnosed with.

I'm reminded of the time one of those Bible Thumpers was praying that God called Justice Brennan home. Forget whether it was Fallwell, Robertson, Oral Roberts (sorry, I still giggle at that name), or one of the other nut jobs.

    2. Do you suppose they would also hold Donald Trump's obesity and intellectual difficulties as Godly justice for him opposing the Constitution?

      1. A few years ago, Wiley Drake, a right wing, fundamentalist Christian, preacher in California issued public deprecatory prayers against a individual, calling on God to immediately remove him from this earth and send him to hell.

The individual was the Rev. Barry Lynn, the soon-to-retire-after-a-distinguished- career, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

  1. For the 82% of my county who voted for this f*cking train wreck: are you tired of #winning yet?

Reacting to Trump's threats, Mexico signed a duty-free agreement with Argentina: Mexico will import all of its wheat, soy, corn etc from Argentina, and will export cars duty-free. This will cause a loss of $13,000,000,000 to US farmers, impacting many people who depended on these exports.

    1. Let me see if I can convey the thoughts of those 82% of the folks in your county:

      LOCK HER UP!

      Repeal and Replace!

Pried from my cold, dead hands!

      Why do libs hate freedom?

      Fake news!

    1. Not sure about Coulter even in that regard . . .

. . . maybe a little test is in order?  I once was told by someone that carbon burns, not everybody knows that, it really does . . .

  2. Interesting — for someone who claims he has done nothing wrong, and has nothing to hide, it seems Donald Trump's new favorite catch phrase will become "Pardon Me":

Lawyers for Donald Trump, spurred by the president’s own inquiries, are exploring his power to grant pardons — to aides, family and himself — as a means of undermining special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, The Washington Post reports.

The Post, citing an unnamed source familiar with the queries, said the president himself had asked advisers about the constitutional power, although another source noted that Trump sought only to further his understanding of the privilege. Trump’s lawyer John Dowd called the claims “nonsense.”

I'm pretty sure he'll never get the chance to exercise that option if criminal charges (and especially if impeachment articles) are ever issued.

    1. The New York Times already has an Op-Ed regarding the possible ramifications should he try to pardon his family and associates :

In Trump’s case, the question would be whether he was acting out of the goodness of his heart, or covering up for his family, his associates and himself.

We expect — and hope — that prosecutors and courts would give wide latitude to a president in evaluating his pardon decisions. Only in the most egregious cases should a president face criminal liability for actions taken while in office.

While the law on this subject is unsettled, that in itself should be unsettling to the president as he considers whether to grant clemency. Not only might the pardons constitute obstruction, but the pardoned individuals might be compelled to testify against Mr. Trump without any recourse to the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, since they would no longer have any concern about incriminating themselves.

He could ensure that his family members and aides get off scot-free for any crimes they may have committed during the 2016 campaign. But by extricating those individuals from a legal predicament, he might make his own predicament worse.

            1. Hmph!  In gratitude, maybe he'll help Trump look for Obama's Kenyan birth certificate during his search for Nicole's killer on the golf courses around the U.S…
