#ShePersisted: State Senate Dems Read The Sessions Letter

  • by: Colorado Pols

Creative resistance from the Colorado Senate Democratic Minority, picking up the reading of a letter from Coretta Scott King opposing Jeff Sessions from his previous unsuccessful confirmation attempt in the 1980s after Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was controversially silenced in the U.S. Senate:

In reaction to Senate Republicans silencing Senator Elizabeth Warren while she was reading a letter from Coretta Scott King regarding Senator Jeff Sessions — the new Attorney General — and his nomination to a federal judgeship in 1986, some members of the Colorado State Senate Democratic Caucus put together a video of them reading Mrs. King’s letter.

Call it the ripple effect from a stupendous unforced error.

  1. Elizabeth Warren is a mainstream, hard working, Democrat who knows that sticking up for the Middle Class and the "Little Guy" helps everyone:

I get up every day and just try to do my job. And the job is all the parts. It's about the Coretta Scott King letter, but it's also about fighting like hell to find funding for our firefighters, and so I try to do both of them. You know, you just keep working through it. It's like it moves—what you can do. I think I maybe once described it to you this way: I feel like I climb a sheer rock wall. And I'm just looking for handles where I can make a difference. This is one of them. I'm going to stay after Steve Mnuchin, the guy who's going to be up for Secretary of Treasury.

Steve Mnuchin will stick up for the big guys. Though the big guys really don't need sticking up for. Mnuchin's bank foreclosed on a 90-year-old who was $.27 overdue.

Those are the people Democrats are sticking up for.

But what we got is people. And people who are active and engaged now. And yeah, it's hard to stay engaged over a long period of time, but that kind of accountability, that kind of oversight, is about the best tool we've got going forward. They can confirm, not just people that are different than me—okay, Donald Trump's appointing people that are not the people I would have picked to be Secretary of Education or Attorney General, I get that—but he's picking people so far out of the mainstream, he's picking people out of the fringe. I mean, the fringe is in their rear view mirror, they've gone so far out on some of them.

And the rest of us have got to get engaged and stay engaged.

You can't be best friends with someone who wants to ruin a government Of, and By, and FOR THE PEOPLE.

      1. Why is she a hero for breaking the rules?

Gee, Fluffy….maybe for the same reason your Orange Hairball in the white house gets your rocks off. that motherfucker is breaking rules left and right…didn't you notice?
