Gardner Disses Obama Hard One Last Time

  • 56 Comments
  • by: Colorado Pols

As caught on camera by The Hill yesterday, Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner is snarling mad at outgoing President Barack Obama over the commutation of whistleblower Chelsea Manning’s sentence as the clock ticks down toward Donald Trump’s inauguration:

REPORTER: And what about the Manning commutation?

GARDNER: The, I’m sorry?

REPORTER: The Chelsea Manning commutation.

GARDNER: Uh, look. The last actions Barack Obama has made is to stab Israel in the back with passage of the U.S. resolution, now he’s stabbed the American people in the back by pardoning a traitor. [Pols emphasis]

It could have been worse, we suppose. We’ll refrain from speculating how lest we give Gardner any ideas.

      1. Assange is Australian. not American.  He is a bitter enemy of America but can't be called a traitor.   Manning was a traitor and Obama said he could settle  a 35 year sentence for 20 cents on the dollar.   It was the lowest point of a generally good eight years.

        1. I agree with Voyageur about Assange and Manning.  The latter was wearing the uniform of the U.S. Army, when he passed off military secrets.  Like the actions of Benedict Arnold, that is pretty much the definition of treason.  A commutation was not warranted in this case.

  1. Apparently, Comrade Gardnerov doesn't know the difference between a pardon and a commutation.   I didn't support commutation for Manning, but the reasons that Obama gave made sense.  The penalty was extreme compared to others arrested for similar crimes.  She will have served 7 years by the time this is over.

  2. Manning was a spy, not a whistleblower..  he was convicted of five counts of espionage.  His 35 year sentence was less than the life sentence jonathan pollard received for spying for israel.  And pollard at least passed the information to  a friendly government.  Manning gave it to wikileaks where al-qaeda and every other terrorist group cpuld get it with a mouseclick.  Manning's commutation was Obama's most shameful moment.   He was still a. Very good president but this was a hateful act and an insult to everyman and woman who ever served this country in uniform with honor.

    1. Maybe Obama wanted whistle blowers during the Trump years to take heart.

      From Shakespeare

      The quality of mercy is not strained,
      It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
      Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;
      It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
      'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
      The throned monarch better than his crown;
      His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
      The attribute to awe and majesty,
      Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
      But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
      It is enthroned in the hearts of kings,
      It is an attribute to God himself;
      And earthly power doth then show likest God's
      When mercy seasons justice.

        1. You really think Hunter S. would have been on the side of the government in the Manning case?   Are you familiar with his work at all, or did you just google "quotes for displaying vicarious bad-assitude"?

          1. Christ, M.J., he was convicted on five counts of violating the espionage act.   He wasn't in the service of "any" foreign government — he fed that crap tp EVERY FOREIGN GOVERNMENT, every terrorist group, every America hating swine on this planet.   Oh, but it's OK, because later he decided he was a girl and therefore we can't punish him?  Assange may have been a jerk.   But Bradley Manning was — and is — a traitor.

              1. You can celebrate treason all you like.  Swig away.  But just because a traitor claims to bea tranny, it doesn't make him a woman or excuse his treason.   Yes, the hate America crowd won a great moral victory when bradley got his commutation.  Did you ever stop to think that such victories may have cost you Congress and the presidency?  Most real Americans don't like traitors.

                1. What are the criteria for being a "real" American?  Do they have to think and believe exactly like you do, or is there a minimum percentage involved?

                    1. Well, I can think someone who

                      A: refuses to utter one word of criticism about the convicted traitor and

                      B. Swiftly and harshly condemns anyone who does criticize the aforementioned traitor.

                      so, draw your own conclusion.

                    2. Give it a rest and go back to the thread where you argued that there were absolutely no gay men on ru paul's drag race!   It was just as stupid but at least you weren't celebrating treason.

                  1. So, if someone doesn't subscribe to your precise interpretation of a complicated situation that has a number of different interpretations, based on the known circumstances…

                    …they're not a Real American?

                    1. You can't do it, can you? You can't make even a token criticriticism of this traitor.  But you can spew venom on anyone who does criticize him.   Case closed.

                    2. Words aren't magic spells, you nitwit.  You can call Manning whatever you like (and you do, copiously, giving whatever pleasure you derive from it).  I said it was right to jail him.  As for whether someone is a traitor, I don't pretend to know their intent.  I just don't have the same need for vicarious bloodthirsty posturing that these "strong words" do for you.

                      I learned a long time ago that I didn't know everything.  You should try it.  It makes you smarter.

                    3. Intent doesn't matter curmy.  Bradley manning gave aid and comfort to the enemy in time of war and put his fellow soldiers' lives At risk.  That is the textbook definition of treason.

                      Still I am glad to know we have something in common.  I also learned a long time ago that you don't have all the answerswink

                    4. So, we were at war with Wikileaks?

                      Do you have the same bloodthirsty feelings about Generals who leak classified info to their mistresses, or just people with gender issues?

                    5. So you think curmy that only the league of women voters read the 700,000 secret document your traitor tranny posted on wikileaks.?  Awfully nice of Assad, al qaeda, ISIS and other terrorists not to read it.  But you just admitted that the reason you support manning is that he now claims to be a woman.  I guess if Charlie Manson became Chelsea Manson you'd want to let him go.  Why does bradley's alleged conversion to a woman excuse treason?

                      Would you have pardoned Chelsea Hitler?  Chelsea Bundy?  Just what lunatic lengths are you willing to carry your sexual politics?

                    6. Where did I say I supported Manning?  I just questioned whether you felt the same about Generals who leaked classified information as well, and pointed out that your bloodlust only seems to extend to those with gender issues.   I don't give a shit how Manning identifies. I don't care how anyone identifies, because it's not my business how anyone identifies.  You're the one making an issue of it.  A lot.  Like, obsessively.

                  2. No one is celebrating treason, so feel free to play Sgt Rock somewhere else, too.  And what is it with you and this obsession you have with disparaging other people's sexuality and/or gender issues?    As for me, I could care less about what people do or how they identify.

                    Why is it your business, anyway?

          2. Curmy.   Gawd, are you dumb!   Hunter was not the originator of that quote.   As for taking a side, the drug addled shit wouldn't have known there was a controversy.

      1. Thanks for quoting Shakespeare, GG. It puts me in mind of another apt description from the Bard, this time of a Trump policy tweet:

        ..It is a tale

        told by an idiot

        full of sound and fury

        signifying….nothing.

        -Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 5

    2. Manning was definitely a whistleblower. No evidence that she was in the service of any foreign government, while Assange is  now  squarely in Putin's pocket.

      Here's what Manning herself said about "why she did it." I understand that this won't change a fraction of a pixel of Voyageur's opinions; however, others may find it interesting.

      Anonymous had some interesting backstory about Assange; apparently, he's always been a self-serving jerk.

      1. "V" is right on Manning. You are wrong. Only Democrats would have concerns about why he did it. Frankly MJ, I don't give two shits about his motive.

              1. Obviously, Curmie, the ignorant loudmouth known as PeePee has no moral compass, much like his exalted leader. I am sure his opinion and treatment of women are a mirror image of the misogeny and callousness of his idol.

                I like the "Trumpkopf" label…so stealing it…laugh

                I am out of here for a little while. I am providing sound and staging for the "Womens' March" in GJ today. If that ignorant fuckface that calls himself Powerful Pee, comes looking for me, tell him I will be out there on the "sidelines"…preparing to kick his sorry Republican ass at every opportunity.

                  1.  Banger, I'm just not feeling the love from ya buddy, what happened to us? Remember, "We are stronger together". Well maybe not it didn't work for Hilda Beast.  I know, you and I can "Make America Great Again".  Well maybe not, after all you're Republican.

                1.  Here I am on a perfectly peaceful Saturday morning  minding my own business and I get attacked by "Councilman" Cox. "Councilman" Cox the public policy guru extraordinaire threatens me with physical violence from the sidelines of a woman's march in Grand Junction. Just because I didn't support Bradley Manning receiving a commutation of his prison sentence. Priceless

                  1. Come on, Prostitutka Putina, everyone knows you'd never go within 5 miles of a gathering of more than 5 women at any time, unless you were in some sort of disguise.

                    Someone might recognize you.

                  2. Actually, I'm the one pointing out that Pvt. E-1 for life Manning was a traitor, which curmy will deny with his dying breath.   I Think the Duke of Cox is just  reacting to the fact that you're a dick.

                    1. Yes, you called Manning a traitor.

                      I guess you showed them.  They'll never cross you again, will they?  Wow.  If only you'd been around when General Patreus (a guy who really should know better, right?) was passing secrets to his mistress.  You'da showed him, wouldn't ya?  Hell, you might have even wagged a finger at him while you called him names.

                      That's a thing with you, isn't it? Calling people names that you want to call them., and getting all pissy when people don't agree with the names you want to use.  Me, I could care less.  I have better things to do than brag about how emotionally involved I am in a subject.

                    2. I caled manning a traitor because he is a traitor.   As to petraeus, trying to impress his mistress isn't treason.  I know of no evidence any of that classied stuff reached the enemy.  Can you name onedamaging item?  Ahh, false eqjuivalence,the ideologue's favorite toy.

      2. Actually, Snowden is Putin's pawn.   I will laugh my ass off when, not if, Putin gives Snowden to the tender mercy of Trump in return for lifting sanctions on Crimea.

  3. "…..passage of the US resolution……"  The good senator is incorrect. The UN resolution regarding Israel's settlements policies was introduced by New Zealand.

  4. Why would there be time limit on Senator Spokesmodel blaming Obama?

    When they find the American people won't let them repeal, and they can't replace with anything worth a damn, who are they going to blame?
