Bradford Pulls Plug On Political Career

  • by: Colorado Pols

That’s the word from Charles Ashby at the Grand Junction Sentinel:

State Rep. Laura Bradford announced today that she will drop out of the race for House District 54…

“While I love serving my constituents in the state Capitol, my first priority is my family and ensuring that my husband is in good health,” said Bradford, R-Colbran. “I’m proud of my efforts to help small business owners and families on the Western during this recession.”

Bradford drops out just two days before the HD54 assembly is to meet in Clifton on Saturday to pick nominees for the redrawn district, which includes all of rural Mesa County and the eastern half of Delta County.

Nobody will quibble with her reasoning after her husband’s well-publicized health issues, but it had become quite obvious that Rep. Laura Bradford had lost all support from powerbroker Republicans, in Denver and in her erstwhile district, after her nonetheless disastrous “exoneration” from consequences of a traffic stop in Denver in January and allegations she had invoked legislative immunity from prosecution for driving under the influence. It’s almost certain that she would have been humiliated at the upcoming HD-54 assemblies Alice Nichol-style.

The “Bradford Incident” left many unanswered questions, but the biggest is now answered.

  1. No one can accuse Laura Bradford of being stupid.  Her reception was cool and most of her former supporters kept their distance.

    Today’s announcement is no surprise.

It will be interesting to watch the HD 54 Assembly on Saturday. From all accounts, 29 year old Jared Wright from Fruita is the favorite although Rusty Price of Palisade might benefit from Laura’s announcement and force a primary.

  2. Too bad the Rs eat their own.  I will miss her.  Alice Nichol was a racist and a crook, from what I can tell. Bradford was an open minded legislator who chafed under the control of right wing leadership.  I wish her the best. Oh and I am not an R.

  3. bradford was too liberal for colorado, she voted against the gop resolution to repeal obamacare and she drank and drove – obviously not a social conservative!!

mcnulty was right to find rusty price to challenge her!!! this jared right seems to be nothing but a continuation of the establishment, as was evident saturday, he is a professional politician with some police experience. we don’t need more cops in denver, we need more bussinessmen

  4. Votes for leadership are always in order.  If someone called for a vote for Speaker I bet Laura Bradford would gladly cast her vote for Mark Ferrandino.

      1. Laura Bradford blames Frank McNulty for all her woes and that of her family. If the GOP stuck with McNulty Bradford would vote for Ferrandino.  The question is do the Democrats in the House have the guts to do it?

  5. that she was not the favorite going into the vote this weekend.  Wright clearly got the best reception from the crowd.  We will see if Bradford’s announcement has any impact to change the race for the remaining two.
