That’s the word from Charles Ashby at the Grand Junction Sentinel:
State Rep. Laura Bradford announced today that she will drop out of the race for House District 54…
“While I love serving my constituents in the state Capitol, my first priority is my family and ensuring that my husband is in good health,” said Bradford, R-Colbran. “I’m proud of my efforts to help small business owners and families on the Western during this recession.”
Bradford drops out just two days before the HD54 assembly is to meet in Clifton on Saturday to pick nominees for the redrawn district, which includes all of rural Mesa County and the eastern half of Delta County.
Nobody will quibble with her reasoning after her husband’s well-publicized health issues, but it had become quite obvious that Rep. Laura Bradford had lost all support from powerbroker Republicans, in Denver and in her erstwhile district, after her nonetheless disastrous “exoneration” from consequences of a traffic stop in Denver in January and allegations she had invoked legislative immunity from prosecution for driving under the influence. It’s almost certain that she would have been humiliated at the upcoming HD-54 assemblies Alice Nichol-style.
The “Bradford Incident” left many unanswered questions, but the biggest is now answered.
