Paying my respects this evening to #Mork at 1619 Pine in #boulder Thank u for making us laugh Robin Williams pic.twitter.com/ufmP2jY7QM
— Jared Polis (@jaredpolis) August 12, 2014
Congressman Jared Polis (D-Boulder) perfectly in the moment–as perhaps only he can be–as the world mourns the passing of beloved comedian Robin Williams yesterday. As photographed in from of the Boulder house made famous by Williams' hit comedy show Mork and Mindy.
Worth posting on general principles.

Shazbot!
I get that Robin Williams is beloved, but is this congressional behavior? Really?
He took a few minutes out of his day to take a photo in front of a house. You should start a recall campaign, and when the assholes in congress that you support try to shut down the government again just go dark.
HGFG, you da best! These ppl really hate every single thing a Dem does or says….they've been very well trained by their Radio Masters.
So true…cheers Zappatero !
You couldn't be more right, Moderatus. Here's how a real congressman serves his constituents:
BAM
I guess you're more the public floor humping (or whatever it was that Coffman calls his exercises) in the airport lobby kind of guy, eh Moddy??
As opposed to what? Making racist remarks about the size of the calves of Latinos? (Steven King, R-Iowa) Threatening to thow a reporter over a balcony railing? (Michael Grimms, R-NY) Soliciting sex from an undercover cop in the Minneapolis airport toilet? (Larry Craig, R-ID)
We do live in a curious time, however, . .
. . . when creating a photo-op for one's self somehow equals "paying my respects" ???
(Not sure I'd even post that on my own Facebook page — actually, not being on Facebook, I'm sure I wouldn't — let alone broadcast it in any manner, and certainly would not consider it front-page worthy material.)
I am with you Dio. I thought this was pretty strange. Polis was also on the local news in this goofy get up. Paying respects is lighting a candle, placing a flower. It was too early for cosplay.
Plus there are real people who own and live in that house. Leave them the f**k alone!
You don't know they were bothered by it and if so don't buy a famous house.
What he did is a form of paying respect, don't be a old timer.
I'm sure he meant well. No accounting for everyone's taste. I found it off putting.
I htink this a tribute that Mork/Williams would dig
Look, if you are the duly elected representative of the People's Republic of Boulder, you dress in any damn thing you want, and you can absolutely channel Mork from Ork. Nanu, Nanu, Robin. We'll miss you.
Absolutely. Get a grip, people. I thought Jared was fine. It's Boulder, and he is Boulder's Congressman.
IIRC, Mork and Mindy was set in Boulder. This was a fitting tribute, I think Robin would have liked it.
That's what's wrong with the Repubs; they're GROWN-UPS. I don't mean responsible adults. They have no sense of humor. They've forotten how to play and what it's like to be a child. Maybe that's why they have no problem suggesting that hungry children do janitorial work for their lunch. Williams never lost his child-like sense of fun; except, I guess, in the depths of the depression that killed him.
Read through the comments here (other sites as well) and I'm just asking myself, self, why is it that so often when someone posts something and in so doing, in no way shows what their political affiliation is, that when they recieve a response that disagrees with them, that they assume the respondent is the opposite of their own political persuasion? Is this a by-product of polititicians telling us what their opponent is and stands for instead of who they are and stand for? How have we come to pigeon-hole ourselves on behalf of the parties to such a degree? I know who it benefits and it sure isn't the citizenry.
I hope Robin Williams has found one to make him laugh there, as he has made us laugh here and has finally found the peace that he was serching for. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace.
+10 CAMartin.
As to the answer to your question on "Why?"
The political polarization you're seeing, with its knee-jerk condemnation of "libs" or "Rethugs" has been deliberately created (see the movie "Outfoxed" sometime. If we're busy demonizing the other party / President/protest movement, then we're not watching "the man behind the curtain"- that is, we're not looking at where profits are going, who's outsourcing, etc.
Thanks for the recomendation. I'll try and watch when I get my computer hooked up to my tv soon. "Orwell Rolls In His Grave" sounds interesting too, if I can find the time.
It's also possible that you may be missing the context in which a frequent poster is being responded to. Replies in this thread, for example, to Moderatus, come from a long history of interactions and not just what he offered here. Certainly, sometimes people jump to incorrect or unnecessary conclusions about others based on what they post and respond in unhelpful or antagonistic ways. Others bring denigration on themselves through a process of accretion over time.
One thing I like to do when I see such events is to Google search the site I'm on for other comments from the poster. Like "Progressicat site:coloradopols.com" for example, to view my biases and peccadilloes.
Never even thought about searching a site like that, didnt even know you could honestly. In a way I kind of don't want to know but somehow I think curiosity is going to end up getting the best of me, especially some sites I might be on. Guess I'll play it by ear. Thanks for the info. By the way your not kidding on people jumping, I was accused of being a troll just for greeting somone in their native tongue!
