Shafroth Challenges Opponents to Forego PAC and Self-Financing

The Supreme Court’s Decision Striking Down the Millionaire’s Amendment Should Cause All to Rise to a Higher Standard Here in Colorado

Will Shafroth on Tuesday challenged his two opponents to join him in pledging not to take any more special interest PAC money or to further self-finance their own campaign in any way.

Will Shafroth believes the next Congressperson from this district needs to have the full support of the hardworking people who feel alienated by the corrupting force of special interest money and runaway personal spending in political campaigns.

“Foreclosures, skyrocketing gas and food prices, and the outrageous cost of healthcare all have middle-class families in this district feeling pinched.  For political campaigns to be spending millions of dollars is a real disconnect for most people.  As someone who’s never been a politician, I think it’s time we changed all of that once and for all.”

“Ninety-eight percent of my campaign funds have been raised from individuals.  I now challenge my opponents to do the same for the remainder of the campaign”, Shafroth said.

Will Shafroth calls on his opponents to join him in taking the following pledge effective July 1st:

1. Immediately stop taking even one cent more of special interest PAC money for the remainder of this primary campaign.

2. Adhere to the highest standard of the Supreme Court Decision: stop taking “millionaire’s catch up money” and limit contributions from individuals to no more than $2,300 per individual.

3. Stop all self-financing for the remainder of this primary campaign.

“I believe we should all agree from this day forward to commit to a higher standard in financing our campaigns”, Shafroth stated.

      1. Unless she’s going to stop taking PAC money, and we all know she’s going to need every dime she can get. I wouldn’t if I were her.

At this point, Will is just an annoyance, like a mosquito that won’t go away. I’ll bet BOTH Joan and Jared wish he would. He blew any chance he had of even being competitive months ago. At this point, the only thing he can win is the title for most dollars spent per vote earned.

            1. Ended his political career when our campaign failed to attain the Libertarian Presidential nomination one month ago.

But why bring that up? It’s hardly relevant. It’s not amusing, it doesn’t make you look intelligent. In fact, it makes the opposite seem more true. You’re so devoid of the ability to think that you’re forced to change the topic to my former employer.

  1. The Ron Paul of the race is going after PAC’s but cannot get them so he wants’ Joan to stop taking them.  He cannot afford to self fund, so he wants’ Jared to stop self funding.

Can it be another desperate ploy for press coverage? Must be getting old to have to make stories for yourself all the time.

    1. Any guess on how many millions more Polis will pour into his campaign? Since Shafroth’s opponents are likely to reject his call, it’s an easy way to create an issue with a couple press releases. Why not?

      1. Will has taken PAC money as well, yes this is great to waste your staff’s time on.  It is just like trying to find the ” lost ” email list that was under his bed.

          1. FLEISHMAN-HILLARD INC    ST. LOUIS  MO  63102  10/01/2007  $5,000

FARM AND RANCH LAND PROTECTION    WASHINGTON  DC  20008  09/14/2007  $1,000

  2. I knew that Will had said something entirely different about PAC money earlier in the race. And I was right. I did a little investigating and it turns out that in a interview with http://www.squarestate.net he said something quite different than this current press release would suggest.

In his own words: “I have not made any statement that I won’t take PAC money. I decided early on that that would be hypocritical of me to say that because I have given money to PACs over a long period of time; environmental PACs. I recognize the value that they have in the system.”

Can someone say ‘flip flop?’ What else Will he contradict himself on?

    1. to be fair, he would be all over the PAC money train… but they know he has about as much shot as you or I at winning the seat.
