Tancredo Tips ICE on Senate Press Conference

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the New York Times reports:

Representative Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a Republican presidential candidate whose fierce opposition to illegal immigration is the center of his campaign, contacted the immigration service yesterday demanding that agents raid a senator’s news conference.

The afternoon event on Capitol Hill was held by Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois and the leading sponsor of a bill that would give legal status to illegal immigrants who are high school graduates, if they attend college or serve in the United States military for two years. The bill is scheduled to come up for an important procedural vote in the Senate this morning.

Mr. Tancredo announced yesterday morning that he had contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal agency, calling for the arrest of illegal immigrants he said would attend the news conference…

Participating in the news conference were three immigrant students who would benefit if Mr. Durbin’s legislation passed; two were born in Germany, and one was from Costa Rica. All were in the United States on temporary legal status, said Joe Shoemaker, Mr. Durbin’s spokesman. [Pols emphasis]

We would call this a pretty major gaffe (should have verified there were actual illegal immigrants present before calling ICE, dumbass) sure to derail any serious presidential campaign, but it’s Tom Tancredo–so this stunt will probably bring in enough redneck money to keep the campaign bills paid another week.

    1. Name calling seems to be a favorite tactic of the supporters of law-breaking employers and illegal immigrants.

Integrity is not their strong suite, I guess.

      1. He accepts money from known white supremists. He assumes that anyone with a spanish last name is an illegal. He wants to close the border to legal immigration from latin america.  He is a racist.

I understand people who don’t like uncontrolled immigration ( I’m one of them), I understand people who don’t like employers hiring illegals (lots of different reasons to not like that–but then again there are arguments that there are labor shortages in certain industries),  I understand the fairness argument about people who play by the rules.

But Tancredo is a racist–anyone who cites “cultural” reasons for their opposition to immigration is a racist almost by definition.

          1. which you well know. He just chooses to be a one issue speaker but votes with all the RRR’s on their pet issues, at least when he can be bothered to show up.

  1. Skeptic, old buddy. Learn to write English first before you debate on immigration.  One of the issues that people like you keep harping on is that immigrants don’t want to learn to read and write English.  They are new to the language.  What’s your excuse?

Hotels have suites. “Strong” does not.

    1. Suites should be suits. Saw it and didn’t bother to correct the typo, but I do type fast, if not accurately.

Did you check the spelling on Google, or what? 🙂

  2. It’s not the spelling old buddy.  It’s the use of correct grammar. Regarding spelling . . . I was spelling champ in my middle school.  The word suit is actually taught in fourth grade.

    1. Or so Tancredo would believe.

ICE didn’t spend one flat penny on Tancredo’s complaints. They don’t take him seriously.

Also not taking Tancredo seriously: the State of New Jersey, the City of Miami, the Denver Police Department, the Denver Public Library, the Bush Administration, the Republican Party in general, the National Park Service, the Vatican… the list of people Tancredo has fired off complaints to or about is incredibly long.

He’s a one-trick pony, and people are getting tired of the trick.
