Jeff Bridges at State 38 takes a lighthearted look at a comment from CD-2 candidate Will Shafroth in today’s Denver Post:
For the record, my dad really likes Joan Fitz-Gerald and I’ve contributed to Jared Polis.
That’s just in case you were wondering what my family thinks because, apparently, that counts as “on the record” in politics. From an article about CD2 candidates’ stances on Iraq in today’s Denver Post:
The Boulder resident [Will Shafroth] said he was “on record in my family and my community” as being against the invasion of Iraq and that he would not have voted for the 2003 resolutions that Fitz-Gerald supported.
Huh? Look, I’m all for putting your family in campaign ads. I have an especially nice family that might even say good things about me – instead of the truth about what a horrible and hard-headed child I was. But I wouldn’t use them to confirm my position on the most important issue in an election. “My mommy said so!” does not count as “on the record” in politics. Sorry.

This is front page CoPols worthy? Will Shafroth said “he was “on record in my family and my community” as being against the invasion of Iraq and that he would not have voted for the 2003 resolutions that Fitz-Gerald supported.” Then a Polis supporter with too much time on his hands reads this as meaning “My mommy said so!” What? Anyone else confused? I would assume so by the lack of posts. Does anyone else think there is something wrong with saying that your family and community (who are incidentally voters in CD-2) know your position? Give me a break.
Sheesh. No sense of humor whatsoever…
This is pretty ridiculous.
Although, it reiterates the fact that Will Shafroth has taken the correct stance on the critical issue of our day. Being out front on the issue first puts Shafroth ahead of the game in many respects.
“I’m on the record with my family?” You have to admit that sounds ridiculous.
Of course, that isn’t what he said.
The Denver Post story said this, which isn’t ridiculous :
“The third Democrat in the race, Colorado Conservation Trust executive director Will Shafroth, said he would not approve any additional funding without “a timetable of withdrawal.”
“I’m not saying that we have to be out in 30 days or 90 days or 180 days,” Shafroth said. “There are some logistical realities.”
The Boulder resident said he was “on record in my family and my community” as being against the invasion of Iraq and that he would not have voted for the 2003 resolutions that Fitz-Gerald supported.
“Under no circumstances would I have given the president a thumbs-up,” Shafroth said.”
You can change the meaning of anything by taking it out of context. For example, from that same story, I could say that it said:
“Polis, a Boulder Democrat, called on Fitz-Gerald to “apologize for voting…”
Apologize for voting, how ridiculous, how can you not vote if you are in the legislature?? See?
That you changed the words around to make it “fit” better.
with testimony from the Shafroth family. Anyone out there a Shafroth? Winston?
this post is pretty lame!
