Garnett Runs Unopposed in Boulder

  • by: Colorado Pols

It appears as though the next Boulder District Attorney will cruise into office with little trouble (the unpopular Mary Lacy is term-limited).

Stan Garnett, a partner in the high-powered law firm of Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber and Scheck, seems to have a clear path ahead of him in 2008. The only known opponent for Garnett – Boulder Deputy DA Ingrid Bakke – has told friends and colleagues in the DA’s Office that she will not run.

      1. Basically he never did anything while on the school board to help the kids in the schools. Instead he was just a cheerleader for the mediocrity that has a drop-out rate that is way too high and a CSAP proficiency rate that for some grades is way too low.

        1. ….and how many folks out there would even care about this race enough to register here?  Hint: Outside of Boulder County, no one.  Heartbreaker is someone who cares deeply about this race that no one else does.

          1. I just saw a million posts by David about the guy… I’ve met stan once or twice, seemed like a good guy… I’m not a hack, just an agitator…

            1. the combination of your statements ring untrue. A new poster appearing for the specific purpose of questioning a criticism of a public figure, then responding to the suggestion that you may be that person by saying “nope, I just met him and he seemed like a nice guy,” sounds a lot like a poorly executed deception.

    1. You are a very reasonable guy and usually quite moderate in your tone and positions.

On this guy (who I don’t know) you seem very fired up.  What gives? Is this all about your daughter’s science expirement?  Just so you know, I agree with you on “barbiegate”.

If it is about the science expirement, I think you are being a little unfair on judging his ability to be DA.

      1. It was seing him never step up to do anything to improve the school system for the kids. The drop-out rate for poor kids (who are mostly latino) is horrible. And he never pushed BVSD to improve in all that time on the board.

That’s why I figure as a DA he’ll never do anything to improve the DA’s office and on the hard calls will always take the easy way out. We don’t need another Mary Lacy.

  1. Either Ingrid Bakke or Stan Garnett would have done a much better job than Mary Lacy. Mary Lacy embarassed Boulder, law enforcement and herself with her disgraceful stewardship of the District Attorney’s Office. Good riddance.

Ingrid Bakke is one of the top sexual assault prosecutors in the Country. Stan Garnett is one of Colorado’s best trial lawyers.  Stan served our communtiy with distinction
on the Board of Education. All of us in Boulder should be proud that Stan Garnett will be the DA and that Ingrid Bakke will continue her good work for the community.

As for David Thielen. We in Boulder love his crazy comments but no one takes him seriously. The Miers line is kind of funny even if dead wrong.

  2. In eight years Ingrid Bakke will likely be Boulder’s DA.

Ingrid Bakke and Stan Garnett will make a great team working together in the Boulder DA’s Office.

    Thank goodness
Mary Lacy and her awful record as DA are leaving office.
Too bad she does not resign early.
