Edwards Rips Hillary in Aspen

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Denver Post reports:

Edwards took the stage about noon, asking, “Am I the only one here with a tie on?” (He was.) He rolled up his sleeves, tossed his coat and tie aside, and abandoned his script.

Though the speech was billed as an economic address, Edwards used the hour to touch on an array of campaign topics, including America’s global leadership, health care reform, trade policy and special-interest money…

Railing against the influence of lobbyists’ money on campaigns, Edwards continued his recent criticism of his Democratic rivals, including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has defended her acceptance of hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Washington lobbyists.

“I don’t believe we can change America by sitting at a table with drug companies and oil companies,” he said. “You need to take them on directly.”

    1. ..he isn’t first or second in the polls doesn’t mean that he isn’t correct.

The “poll” frontrunner in November, 2004 was George Bush. Look where being the most popular got us.

Hillary will very likely win the nomination, and I’ll vote for her, but don’t count on any support or party work from me.

I see her as more of the DLC same ole same ole, with Big Pharma and Oil stuffing dollar bills in her G-string.

      Who’s your Daddy, Hillary?

    2. Anyone who expects big changes from establishment darling Hillary is dreaming. Anybody who expects her to get us out of the war in Iraq any quicker than a Republican candidate is dreaming.  A vote for Hillary truly is a vote for an old school, business as usual Washington insider.  Just ask Rupert Murdoch.  He threw a fundraiser for her Senatorial campaign in 2006.  If FOX Emperor Rupert thinks Hillary is his girl, why any progressives think she’s OUR girl is a mystery.

      1. Why do all of the Dems go to Aspen? Do they ever plan to stop and meet us poor Coloradoans, or are they trying to send us the message that only the wealthy matter to the Democratic party? It just seems weird to me.

Oh, and Murdoch also gave Edwards a $900,000 book deal.

        1. Murdoch owns the publishing house of Edwards’ book.  Murdoch didn’t give him anything.  Edwards earned the advance by writing a book.  I forget the publisher, it’s an old line house.  So Edwards is supposed to vet his publisher?

This is actually an indictment of the Murdoch media empire being far too reaching.

Also that you spend too much time with Rush or Drudge or LGF.

          1. I dont listen to or read any of the afforementioned sources. I read some newspapers and news magazines and avoid TV. Sorry to disappoint you, but frankly I don’t enjoy talk shows like Rush OR his liberal equivalents, nor do I like their books. I don’t need Rush to tell me that the only candidates to travel somewhere other than Aspen to visit with working class Coloradoans have been Republicans. I am not saying that to promote Reps, but rather to question why Dems dont care.

My point isn’t that Edwards should vet his publisher, just mentioning that financially nobody is entirely separate from people and organizations they ridicule.

I don’t understand what your problem is with the “Murdoch media empire”, such media outlets are able to bought and sold because we live in a free country. I may not like most of the media and how they do things, but it is a heck of a lot better than having the media run by the state like many other countries.

            1. I saw that story on Drudge, “Murdoch give Edwards $XXX”.  The story linked to immediately used the word “earned.”  But somehow, you did pick up that phraseology.
