Tell Rep. Debbie Stafford to stop reading while driving!

So, I was on my way to work, I was on 225, about 1-2 miles from I-25, just before the light rail station, at about 8:40 am, and I look over and see this woman reading a blue booklet.  Hmm, I’ve seen people do makeup in the car, talk on their phones but read?

Sure enough, I kept watching and she had her little booklet propped up against the steering wheel.

Then I slowed down just a hair and sure enough, she was trying to merge into my lane.  She merged forcing me to slow down, and if it had been any other driver I would’ve been ticked off – but instead I was wondering how somebody like that could get elected. I suppose I’ve always linked one’s driving prowess to their intellect.  I have always assumed oblivious and bad drivers are as stupid and inattentive in their everyday lives.

As she sped away on the i-25 ramp, going at least 70, I know because I was going 60 and she was still flying away, I was left with the question; did district 40 make a mistake in electing her?  Wasn’t there a better choice?  (Remember, I link driving ability to living ability – for whatever reason.)

I suppose if you are going to read and drive, it’s probably smart not to have a big red “Re-elect Debbie Stafford” bumper sticker and a legislative license plate with the number 40 indicting your district on your car.

  1.   Debbie Stafford is very busy these day, getting ready to run against Suzanne “Betty Crocker” Williams in S.D. 28 next year.  As such, she must multi-task whenever possible.
Remember, in addition to reading her blue book and driving, she was probably also doing her make up, making a phone call, praying, and ordering lunch.

    1. Next thing you know some nanny state legislator will propose a law against reading a blue book in a car with a legislator’s plage at 60 mph.
