Republican Sen. Steve Ward told The Denver Post what everyone knew but wouldn’t say in so many words surrounding Amendment 41:
…Thursday, the conservative Republican from Littleton bucked his party’s leaders and joined liberal Denver Democratic Rep. Rosemary Marshall to sponsor a bill that defines and implements 41…
…Much of the fury beneath the dome centers on one of 41’s major backers, millionaire Democrat Jared Polis. An ex-State Board of Education member and would-be congressman, Polis once poured money into political campaigns. His hopes of now riding an ethics crusade to D.C. appeals to certain legislators like E. coli-laced spinach.
“There is a lot of crying wolf about (41) in the name of throwing mud at Jared Polis,” Ward said. “I don’t like Jared Polis. But it’s wrong to put a fight with Jared Polis over kids. But for the fact that Jared Polis sponsored this, we’d already be looking at an enabling law.”

The former marine has a sense of humor and is a smart politician. He’ll probably be th GOP’s senate leader sooner than later.
Steve is a distant cousin of mine. His grandfather and my great-grandfather were brothers.
Well, I suppose I understand why Repubs want to discredit him. But why the Dems? I don’t get it.
Discrediting Polis early can only help her chances.
So, I guess I can understand her motivation somewhat. But what about the other Dems?
but that won’t stop speculation!
My guesses:
* Personal dislike. Always possible.
* Fear or resentment that he has too much influence.
* Factional alignment.
* Upset that 41 has become an issue, blame him for it.
* Dislike of “non-politicians” buying their way into the game.
Your ideas seem like reasonable guesses to me.
If any or all of these are true, the publicly disclosed personal criticism of Polis seems short-sighted, in my view. Can people not look beyond the current debate about A.41? (Cuervo asks rhetorically)
It never hurts to curry favor with the President of the Senate. My guess is most of the anti-Polis faction are doing it to get on Fitz-Gerald’s good side.
but I tend to think it’s because it was a terrible law and Polis, as main backer, lead the charge to ignore the critics
after all of this. This seems a little like “biting the hand that feeds them”.
Make that the blue sheep. Most of my family is political inactive, but they are almost all registered GOP.
But don’t worry, I brought my boys up right. Both are Dems and the younger one is active is Alabama.
