Someone made the interesting observation that unlike in the primary, when Mark Hotaling and the Christian Coalition of Colorado were so busy attacking Republicans, that they’ve not seen one attack ad from them attacking Jay Fawcett.
I thought about that and I haven’t either. (Nor have I seen any voter guides from them, for that matter.)
Now, I admit, they may be currently selectively mailing attack ads or maybe they’re holding their powder dry for a few more days, so, something may be in the wind from them about which I’m not informed.
But until I see anything out of them attacking Jay or other sources have seen such hit pieces from them against Jay, it raises a couple of interesting questions about why Mark Hotaling and the Christian Coalition of Colorado have remained silent:
1. Do you think the donations and memberships have declined so badly after their disastrous support of Jon Hotaling’s candidate’s candidacy in the primary they cannot afford to get involved? (Of course, Jon’s guy was Doug Lamborn.)
2. Or, is their silence suggestive that they’re really worried about the FEC complaint charging illegal co-ordination with the Lamborn campaign in the primary and they can’t take any risks of the same charges being filed by the Fawcett campaign against the Christian Coalition of Colorado alleging illegal co-ordination with the Lamborn campaign?
It’s all rather ironic, though, especially given the name of the entity: Christian Coalition of Colorado.
If Mark Hotaling and the Christian Coalition of Colorado would P-L-E-A-S-E just start attacking Jay Fawcett with mailouts like in the primary, it would not be playing out well in the 5th CD’s households. It would have the opposite effect that they would intend!
SCENE: Son has gone to mailbox to get the mail. Mom is working in the kitchen when he returns with it.
SON: “Say, mom, look at what I just got out of the mailbox. Can you believe Jay Fawcett is reported to have said that?”
MOM: “Son, who is it that’s saying that about Jay?”
SON: “It says right here on the back side it’s from the Christian Coalition of Colorado.”
MOM: “Consider the source son. You can throw that one in the trash.”

Lamborn’s campaign manager, as most of us know, is Jon Hotaling. Jon Hotaling, as most of us know, is Mark Hotaling’s brother. As most of us know, Mark Hotaling is employed by the Christian Coalition of Colorado, and as most of us know, there is a complaint that was filed in the primary campaign by Bob Gardner alleging illegal campaign co-ordination between the Lamborn Campaign and the Christian Coalition of Colorado.
While I am not whether Mark Hotaling and the Christian Coalition of Colorado are engaging in any vicious lying ads against Fawcett, such as they used against their Republican opponents in the primary, if they are NOT, trust me, it’s NOT because they’re being “Christian” or “nice guys”.
They’re in fear, if they are indeed not attacking Fawcett, but of what?
Is it fear of another FEC complaint being filed against the Lamborn campaign and the Christian Coalition, this time alleging illegal coordination in the general election?
Lamborn’s other principal benefactor in sleazy campaign ads was the Club for Growth, who is now hard at work using the same sleazy methods in the general election as in the primary.
You know a candidate by the company he keeps.
